Had the day off so I put it to use....VERY close to being on the road again! Engine seems to be running great (BTW, I DID re-torque the head and it DID tighten up a bit). Front end and wheel are installed...brakes bled ( because I had to take the lines off of the front calipers to get the lines run properly through the forks....AFTER the forks were on). About all that remains is the fairing & other bodywork & go over everything to check that all is tightened-up properly. I was tempted to take it around the neighborhood as-is but I'd probably get a ticket :clapping:

I would post more often but the last month i started a new job, lot less physical demands upon me, for the most part i can only do 6 hours before my back starts singing out from those stab wounds, but its better pay, better shop, they were very desperate to find a mechanic and mixer driver. No current bike projects, did get an 86 Venture two weeks ago.

I rode the 1500 wing to henry's this morning. after leaving henry's I rode to roseneau power sport to get front brake pads for the 1200 wing, walked over to the hardware store to have a couple of keys cut, then rode to the gas station for a fill up and a mega millions ticket before making it home

Replaced the front tire and front brake pads on the 78. The 78 brake pads were very easy to change compared to the 86A.

Changed the fork seals on the 86A again. No leaks now. However the new brake pads have brake fluid on them and the front master cylinder activated side grabs when you come to a stop. I'll change that set tomorrow, since I have an extra set of new pads.

I actually, amazingly, finally managed to register the '83! Now, if I can get this eye infection to clear, I can legally ride her! There's still less than 10 miles on the rebuilt engine...

Well today I decided to do something about the blown front speakers my poor Crystal has been suffering with since I bought her. Fresh after my victory of troubleshooting and fixing her cruise control(it wasn't just the control unit I replaced), I jumped into this new repair with much confidence and gusto. Now, the way the manuals would have one do this job is frickn ridiculous and the same goes for most of the tutorials one finds on the web(I'll be posting the easiest way to do it on our forums later) There is no need to remove the seat or the radio console or the turn signals or the windshield. That being said I pealed back the onion like layers that are the GL1500 and got to the speakers.

I removed the first one noting with surprise that they are a Polk product and grabbed one of the Pioneers that I've had in the closet for while and it hit me.

The Pioneers were from Old Girlfriend... size 4". I have no idea why I thought they would fit, all I knew was I was going to do something about those damn speakers today! No worries, $35 fell into my wallet this morning so I decided to go to Wally's for some cheap replacements after all I was not about to buy those sh$tty J&M replacement speakers, the same goes for the OEM and Show Chrome stuff. I found some really sweet 4 way Sony speakers for $37, cool. I go to install the first one but hey it's too big... about 1/4" too big. Doesn't the GL1500 use the next larger size from 4"(5 1/4")? Noooooooooooooooooo :head bang: they use a 5" speaker. I take the new speakers back for a refund :sensored: I drive down to Best Buy and then to the car stereo place but no joy. so I go home... speakerless.

At this point I sit down at the kitchen table and have a shot of Jack Daniel's, poor Janet looks worried. So I go online and try one more thing, I Google "5" speakers," and find these.

On sale like they are now they are comparable in price to the J&M stuff. So I chose these. Since I don't want to put everything back together just to tear it back down, mostly because the dashboard is fragile, I'm going to just park her for a few days.
