This is 'Giddyup-Go', my most recent acquisition. An 83 Aspy that I picked up (embarrassingly) cheap from a guy who is moving and wanted it gone. He claimed that he had purchased it a little over a year ago as a non-running project, (how long she's been sitting, I have no idea) but gave up after installing a new solenoid (proudly exclaiming that he wired it all by himself) and finding out that the starter was bad. Turns out, the motor was seized up. Long story short, I've gotten it free'd up and spinning smoothly, backtracked his 'wiring' and found some interesting applications of household wire nuts, electrical tape, and spade connectors

Lots of work planned for her this winter, but it'll all be worth it because yesterday,,,,,,,,,

She spoke for the first time in who knows how long :yahoo:

Now it's time to really get to work.

Installed a set of Kuryakan high-way pegs, packed a tool bag, gave the 1200 the once over, and figured out how I'm going to pack all my stuff on the bike for my trip to Florida.

With the 1100, I had everything figured out and it was tough stuffing everything on the seat and in the bags and trunk. The extra space the 1200 gives me is nice.

I took her cover off and went for a ride! It's been in the 30's here in the mornings and I guess I'm just getting old because I can no longer say "I ride in any weather" anymore... I mean jeez, the cager has heated leather seats and steering wheel.:?

I walked by my poor bike sitting out getting wet and prayed we have some dry weather soon so the bike will dry out enough to put the cover back on it, I figure if I put the cover on now, it may mildew with all the moisture trapped inside the cover.

Good morning to everyone..! I just picked up a great shape forks for my 78. My front end was sitting a little low. I was sitting on my bike and the front end just fell about 3 inch's or so. I had dropped this bike sometime ago and I think I tweaked the front fork. I rebuilt them last year but one would not hold up. I did the push in test. But the new set is from Ohio a season ride bike. So this is great for Florida.

Nice fork tubes go a LONG way in making parts last, & work well. Glad you found a nice set :good: , really nice to have the parts work at least as good as new, & with some of the after market parts now available, often better. :yahoo:

Finished pulling the engine out, and moved the rest of the bike to the back deck, and covered it. Got the engine sitting on a small table, to finish tearing it down for a re-seal job. :builder:

Thanks friend. I dropped this bike sometime ago getting on 95 slipped on the paint stripe. And of course nobody stopped to see if I was ok It was a ugly drop I slid about 10 feet on my back down in a ditch. Highside fall over the handle bars I didn't want my leg to get trapped between the frame and the ground so I pushed off the peg as the bike was going down and did a rotation in the air to land on my back. Knocked the wind out of me as I slid but I was not pinned and good thing I would have been there awhile cause nobody stopped. That front fairing took a lot of the impact but I think I tweaked the fork on that side it was the one that would always leak after a year..

Started tear down on 'ole Giddyup-Go to prepare for paint, carb work, brake system rebuild, fork seals, timing belts, and whatever else she's going to need to get her ready for spring.

Oh yeah,,,I also added a little over 100 miles to Madam Blue's odometer reading too.

nearly burned it. :head bang: really. had the bright idea to adjust the steering head bearing in prep for a trip next week.
to do this, i put a small cushion on the front guard, removed the headlight and gauges and rested them on the cushion. tied the handlebars up from above.
did the job and put it back in place. right ,i says to meself. take it for a wee spin to see all is ok.
started it up, rode out the gate and CRIKEY  ..... smoke billowing out from under the top lid. SHITEN i squeaked.....
turned it off, disconnected the battery and eventually figured it out. when i dropped the front, i managed to put enough pull on the wiring to pull the ignition relay
i had fitted, all askew. which managed to get hooked up on the shelter retaining cable , which shorted out and burned all the power wires to the coils.
BUGGER,
replaced all the wiring , new relay. relocated the relay so ( hopefully ) it cant be done again.
what makes this so unusual is, i don't make mistakes. not since yesterday, anyway..............
