I have been self employed as an HVAC contractor for the past 27 years. Started out doing a lot of handyman type owrk in aprtment buildings. I did everything from drain cleaning to roof repair. Nowdays I design, install and service residential and light commercial hvac systems. Prior to that I worked as a shop forman for Power Climber Inc. They manufactured swing stage equipment. The stuff window washers dangle from on high rise buildings. Before that just worked at dept stores and as a handyman for apartment complex during college.
My passion has always been music. I played guitar, pedal steel guitar and bass in bands and at my church in worship bands. I did some live sound work and worked as a record engineer for Mystic records in Hollywood. I was never able to make any kind of a living at it but It's a habit I just can't quit.
I've been married 33 yrs and have a son(23) and a daughter (19). We enjoy camping and trout fishing as much as we can.

Hey Stratocat, I noticed that you mention Pedal Steel Guitar and Worship Band in the same sentence. Are you a fan of the Sacred Steel style? It is a rather obscure part of the black gospel music style. Take the energy and incredible spirit of a Black Gospel choir and add in pedal steel played in a bluesy/funky/call-and-response style. If you are not already familiar with it, I suggest The Lee Boys and The Campbell Brothers as a great place to start.

Is'nt that what Robert Randolf doe's. I've seen him on TV and at the Crossroads festival Eric Clapton hosts. No I play pretty much straight country/ country rock style. I'll check out the people you mentioned.

Robert Randolph comes from the Sacred Steel tradition. As I understand it, he is the first person from that community who crossed over into popular music.

I don't know if it was the right guy or not, but I just watched a video of Robert Randolph and the Family Band when the performed on Letterman. I didn't know a pedal steel guitar could sound that way. That was cool.

This is getting a bit off topic ;) , but I have seen/heard Robert play...the guy is amazing! He has taken the pedal steel to a whole new level...and he is extremely passionate when he plays.

Yes Robert Randolf has exposed everyone to new posibilities for the pedal steel. It appears to me watching him he pretty much plays it as just a steel guitar without much use of the pedals or knee levers. Its a very interesting instrument. There are some guys that play straight ahead bebop jazz that are amazing.

18 years now with a major shipping company pays the bills. Motorcycles have always been my number one passion, from the time my dad forbade me ever having one to the day he co-signed the loan on my first one (1984 VF1000F) to the multitude I have owned over the ensuing years. I love to tinker and half-ass restore, currently working on my 1989 ZXR-750 (Asian model ZX-7), having just finished my 1987 CBR 600 F "Hurricane". My oldwing was a half thought that I fell in love with, putting just over 9000 miles on her since purchasing in April. My other passion is firearms. I shoot IPSC and three gun competitions occasionally and love anything that goes bang. And there's beer...I really like beer. Funny, my favorite three things in life really don't mix very well

Well I’ve been away from the forum for a while but love this thread. I’m also in love with the 1100 wings, have two and 83 and an 80. Still restoring the 80 it was a real mess.

I’m a truck mechanic and an A&P mechanic. I run a small truck shop for a major company, and work on aircraft to get flight time, love to fly, can’t afford it much anymore. I grew up in a body shop but got away from that other than doing a little on the side occasionally.

I’m also involved mildly with the CMA and enjoy the group. I use my 83 wing for commuting and weekend rides. Want to start taking more longer trips though. My commute is 90 miles round trip and I ride the wing every day it isn’t raining.

My other passion is photography and video, I’m involved with video production for our church and we are very close to profession level of production. We stream two services every Sunday and have two TV slots during the week. It has been a big learning process for me, especially video/sound editing.

Have a wonderful wife, grown kids that we hardly ever see. Two are career military and both deployed right now. Wife loves to ride almost as much as I do, however she wishes to remain just a passenger.

My other passion is woodworking and restoring antique furniture but we don’t have anymore room for furniture so that has been on the back burner for some time now.

after graduating from d.c.h.k ( i'm sure some of you graduated from this school too as they are all across the nation, only the name changed ) i started driving a truck locally and going to school, hvac and hp boilers. robotics and the early days of computers, before they had hard drives i was a programer. learned auto and m/c repair at a very young age, my dad was a licensed mechanic. drove big rigs across country for a few years now i am in new car delivery, been doing that for about four years of the 14 i've been at this job. i like older schwinn bicycles and tinkering with my '79 cobra 429 powered, '86 mustang convertable 5.0, and '93 t-bird 5.0. i usually buy a computer kit and build a new computer every two to three years. i stilll play with my camrea's too

Lots of great posts in this thread. :uparrow: :clapping:

"My" passions are few and simple. I love my family first and foremost, we all seem to help each other through the stuff. I'm a big PC gamer, with Star Trek Online and the Half-Life series and it's variants being my favorites. I've led many teams in many leagues, winning a few championships along the way. Love my rock 'n' roll indoors and out, read a fair bit of horror and sci-fi and of course movies and TV series like True Blood and Sons of Anarchy . Then there is my over the top passion...my 1100. I park it where I can see it on smoke breaks. Some days like today I come up with an excuse to get into the trunk just to start it for a minute... I really liked my 1000 from eleven/twelve years ago, but I don't remember obsessing like this.
