yes again not stupid to get clear info...good going
Well I used to be a Navy Nuc common sense comes hard to us :builder:

Ok got home last night and pulled the idle jet, it was a modified 55 jet but smaller than 35 smallest bit i had was 40 so that is its current setting. Still having to screw the fast idle adjustment all the way in to get it to idle so I'm gonna swing by NAPA for a rebuild kit and check the guts

ok ...you probably wont find a .035 idle jet for your carb ...here many ..myself included use micro carb bits to resize jets and solder too ...to get sizes we need or think we need ....i dont use or have worked with carb you have much at all....but in general as i see it ...seems idle jet needs to be way small ...

Getting ready to work on lowering the idle on mine this evening, as long as the boss doesn't have plans, and this caught my interest since I am not sure that the idle screw will be enough to lower the rpm by 500+. Up to this point, I had assumed that jetting/re-jetting involved removal and replacement of the jets. So rather than that, I just solder the jet closed and drill it out to a new size? I like that idea!

Yeah ain't that the truth, boy oh boy. We been all over up and down in sizes in idle, main and air bleeds.

Pulled the carb last night, found a puddle of gas in the manifold. Checked the butterfly clearance and in order to get the .003 had to bottom out the fast idle adjuster, gonna check this morning to make sure the butterfly didnt get installed backward.
One question for everyone with the solex. Did you plug the hole in the butterfly? The instructions that came with mine said to, but it seems like it might run better with the hole left open

took the jb weld out of the hole in the butterfly, opened up the carb found some pieces of rubber? in the float bowl flushed them out flushed everything out with carb cleaner, changed the float valve, so tonight I'll see if i can get it back in and give it another try.
I think I'm gonna try mounting the solex to the CI manifold just have to coax one of my coworkers to do a little milling and TIG welding for me to make the riser for me

Sounds good. CI manifolds were pretty sturdy.

That and the home made manifold I got off Ebay has a lot of dead space. The CI should be a lot more efficient

got the carb back in the bike and tuned to idle at about 1100 still seems a bit rich so when the 35 jet arrives im going to install it into the carb. Started work on mounting the solex to the CI manifold I have will be starting a new topic on that shortly. Good thing I got the Goldwing running the clutch went out on my XS750 coming home from work last night so more work for me. :sensored:
