What a score!! Another step forward in rebuilding the 75 engine. Scored a 1200 primary chain tensioner set today.i would of settled for an 1100 set... But when opportunity comes knocking...

I’d like to see this primary chain and tensioner upgrade documented piece by piece as it goes in, with any fitment issues particularly. Makes for a good read and future references.

Hey Dan, I'll take some pics as I go but generally I'm following john's instructions from wingovations.

The 1200 chain is wider than the 1000 so I doubt I will fit that due to the differences in the drives on the end of the crankshaft.
There is quite a discussion over at NGW about it...

Yah quite a flaw ..they get quite sloppy and just looks weak overall..nothing like the 1200 setup ..even the rotor is way beef up ..Something about the 1000 set up and 1100s also that creates trauma ...I've never seen a not stretched out primary chain on a 1000...

I’m not really interested in what goes on over there which is why I asked to document it here. Oh well. If you do great. If not, that’s okay.
Yup... Know the feeling Dan... Know the feeling... I much prefer here...
That wingovations link is a good link...
I just found out how to remove oil sight glass... I'll put a post up re that... I saw someone asking about it somewhere recently...and I didn't find out from the other place....

I'll post up when I get parts and start reassembling....

Hmmm mental note.... Later model oil sight glasses are made of a different material to the 75 one I just removed... Shattered it... Bugger. I'll have to use a bit of ingenuity and make one for next engine as they are not available...
You live and learn..

What size is this sight glass? There are 18 mm sight glass for a master cylinder on amazon. Shouldn't be a lot of pressure on this sight glass from the inside.
Sight glass is 40mm according my verniers. If I can find a seal to match I can then get a glass cut for it... It's not that bigger deal. The engine I pulled from the 75 frame I reckon is a 76 engine. From my memory the 1st years model only had a glass with no wiper. My 76 I had when I was a youngin had a wiper. All the sight glass is, is a seal with the plastic or glass in it...
So I'm beginning to think that this engine I've pulled apart now is the original engine.. Which is a good thing.
The 75 glass came out reasonably easy... The other one not so.... I believe with a bit of ingenuity and care I can duplicate it.

Well it was a busy day today... Took my engine cases to Harris engineering today with the pistons from the original engine... I think they'll be OK but I'm no engineer. May come back and tell me they won't work...
https://www.harrisengines.com.au/services/
If that's the case I'll buy a 0.50 over kit from Germany... And a few other bits.
I got an idea for a frame stand to build so I set to and built it today. Ideal for painting... Maybe for putting front together... Can rotate the frame around...

75 casings are now with engineering company... Rebore... Gotta order ring sets now....

So... This engine build is going to challenge me...
Pistons I provided are going to be too small... I was really hoping that they would be OK... Anyways..
So... 2 plans now or options.. Plan A... Machine out bores and resleeve... And bore to current pistons.. That was the original plan...
The plan B was to either to fit the pistons after rebore... Not happening... So pistons that I was going to use that I thought would do the job are 0.25. The engineering company say I need 30 thou oversize. I thought that these measurements.. Ie 0.25,0.50,0.75 etc were in thou.... Apparently not... 30 thou is 0.75?
Meeting with engineers on fri... See what we can nut out.. All bike enthusiasts as well...

Lot of work there. Keep at it, you will find a solution to the various parts.
I like a challenge Gerry...

just investigated the oil sight glass myself. this is the spare parts bike i bought that had a broken crankshaft. Ol Mate ( PO ) got tired of not being able to see the oil level so he put a bolt in the crankcase...

when I got the cases apart i was interested to see where the hole ended up on the inside. at this stage I was under the impression that the sight glass had an oring. anyway, here is a pic of the inside of the case. note how filthy the sight glass was.
oil level bolt hole.jpg

after a fair bit of studying up, I decided to try tapping the glass out. I used a small diameter piece of
wooden dowel and a small soft blow hammer. came out fairly easily, as someone said, there would be bugger all oil pressure there. i discover, it was in fact a seal,
oil level glass seal.jpg

here is a picture of the size markings on the seal. I went off to the local supplier to see if they had one similar , but they didnt.

and , me being me, I decided to dismantle the whole setup. and kind of came to the conclusion that it would be nigh on impossible to rebuild. for me anyway. that sight glass is one thick piece of glass, approx 5mm thick.
and would be hard to break i reckon. now, i'm wondering if the later one with the little wiper setup
is glass ? might be slightly different material to make it easier to fit the wiper ?
here is the glass.
