Very nice. Have seen that finish before! :music:
I tried doing my other casings from this engine with glass media... Nowhere near as good... OK to paint over but not as good as vapour blasting.

Had mine vapour blasted as well including most of the parts and pieces that attach to the engine case. Coated everything with CERAKOTE MC-5100. Update on the CERAKOTE - first few days were a bit mucky after the rain and roads were wet. Wheel rims were fashionably dirty. Cleaned the front wheel rim - cloth rag sprayed with glass cleaner, and wiped clean and was very shiny again. Rear wheel rim will be left for a while, a better torture test. Final drive same results, wet cloth and everything wiped off. Media blasting was used when I was going to paint.

I had a stroke of luck today. Finally... After all the bad luck I've been having lately with corroded bores and a crankshaft scored... I finally bit the bullet.
After going into Harris engineering here in Perth and finding that I'm going to need a crankshaft plus bearings... I though bugger it I'll start stripping my spare 1000 engine. Quite rough on the outside so I wasn't holding my breathe but thought.. I've got nothing else to lose. I'm expecting the engine internally to be buggered.
I get it on to my engine stand and remove the heads and have a good look at the bores... Seem OK... Got my hone out with drill and give the bores a quick scuff to see if I can see any major defects.. None... Sensational.
So I set to and start splitting the cases... Water pump is bit average but still oem Honda.
I've got the left casing off and place on my brand spanking new bench purchased just for such an occasion... One thing I note as I've removed the clutch basket with gear shaft out that some of these bolts internally such as the oil splash guard and the pan behind the primary chain is very loose... Half undone almost.
With the left case on the bench I'm able to give a full hone. Comes up pretty mint... Except for a slight Ridge at the top of the bore.
I wipe the bore clean... Nice... Grab one of the pistons from my other engine.. Those pistons are marked 0.25 over. They don't fit... So the second engine is on its factory bores.. Awesome.
The pistons from it tho are cactus... A lot of slop in some of the ring groves and others the rings are seized in.
Next... I'm curious with bearings now... Something is gonna stop me... Everything is going swimmingly at present... Almost too good to be true... I remove the centre main bearing cap... Check journal and shell... Near perfect.. Put it back on.. Repat the process with the other 2...same deal.. Near perfect.... Righto... Check conrod journals... One at a time... Reassemble.. Check next repeat... All near perfect to the point I don't think I'll need bearings... Can't believe it... So happy at this point I crack a celebratory cold beer!!
So... Plan now is.... Rebore these casings to suit the pistons from the other engine.. 0.25 over. They are still quite fresh.
As for bearings... When I get back home from work next Thurs (I work in Fifo mining) I'll get the plastiguage/flexiguage out and Check bearings officially.

Nice outcome on 1000 motor ...ok you were talking primary chain loose ...yes?probably the weakest link on a 1000 motor especially in the 75-77 motors they improved it in 78 - 79 .....

No not the primary chain. There is a panel that is behind the chain... Think it is of plastic type of construction... It's bolted to the casing... The bolt holding that was like half out. There were a few other bolts I noticed that weren't tight like they should be. Would love to be able to modify the primary chain set up to have a spring loaded tensioner... Like a cam chain tensioner...

1200 has a spring loaded primary chain tensioner. Here's a pic of the 1200 chain tensioner installed. Looked at the casing that this might be installed in the 1000. Screw holes look very similar to what the 1200 is:

As for the transplant into the 1100 bike ...hmmmm there are some good things going on ...rpm will lower some at roads speed overall taller gearing with the 1100 swing arm ...I'd fine a new primary chain for it ...hopefully it a 78-79 motor with the better chain set up with tensioner and bit wider chain ......if use as a street bike and not pulling trailer or extra weight should be fine set up ...go for it..I had my 79 set up this way a long time ...it for sure was a better road bike at speed ....

No... Not transplanting 1000 into 1100 frame... Restoring a 75...still have the 1100 and the 1100 aspy to do....

OK... So would the 1100 primary chain tensioner fit in the 1000 engine? I mite post something in technical section...

No I don't think so ...
Apparently it does... there is a topic on ngw site. Apparently 1100 and 1200 tensioners bolt straight in. 1200 has a stronger spring.
The only mod to do is the splash guard... Needs to be cut to allow cases to be joined. Or they can be left out all together as the 1100s and 1200s don't have them. Thoughts are because the primary chains are thicker/wider...
So while my engine is apart it's getting one fitted. :)

Yes I see but the 1000 chain needs to be used witch is skinnier the thinnest being 75-77 ...and the 1200 being the widest ...talk about the worse oldwing to supercharge ..or mod for big power it's the 75-77 short block ..78-79 are tougher ..1100s tougher still ..1200 short blocks the toughest..

Yup... You are correct... Luckily I'm not looking for power... I've got my blackbird for that...

That's power
I've had that girl over the $3 mark.... Pulled over. Stopped and slapped myself... Don't need to prove it's fast... I know it's fast!
Its got more power than I'll ever use. And I believe the blackbird will be a classic like the cbx and 750 four in time... Last built Honda that really excited me is my blackbird.
I've been trying to get my personal plates "SR71XX"

here is the 1200 tensioner going into my 75 engine. the oil tray has to be cut so the cases go together.

the relevant part is about 30 sec into this vid. i used the 1200 as it apparently is much stronger than the 1100. in my opinion, a great modification. engine is much quieter.

I'm trying to find a 1200 tensioner to little or no joy...

Hey thanks too Maurice... I use your videos as a go to.... Between deciphering manuals etc...

Blackbirds might become classics but at the moment they are the best bang for buck bikes around here. A mate just paid $3K for the first series EFI one for his young bloke to ride.

Once upon a time you used to be able to pick up a good cbx6 up for that money as well. Now if you can get one under $10k you're considered a thief...
The bird is super reliable, good looking bike.. Has presence. It's a heavy bike but once rolling it's a very fast smooth tourer.
I find that up over 4500rpm it smooths out... Really nice. When I shipped it to UK in 07,my wife and I were at cruise speeds in excess 140kmh...fully loaded... This was where the bird was really at home...
