The starter and chain should turn CCW on the back of the engine in order for it to turn the engine in a CW direction.
Good catch. Reversed polarity would spin starter backward.":35osy87x]
GL1200s are a negative ground system. Watching the video, it looks like you are connecting the positive wire to the frame of the starter and the negative to the starter post. Am I wrong?
I just re-watched the video and saw you pull the chain and spin the starter. That starter should not be able to turn that easily. It may be in your best interest to get a known 1200 starter that works correctly first.":2pxqjwrl]
Heres a video of my issue as of now.

Sounds to me like a collapsed hydro valve adjuster. I'd change to 10/30 or maybe better, replace a 1/2 qt with automatic trans fluid. ATF will also help clean things up inside. Run that mix easy for a hundred miles or so then change to 10/30.":3ji57bt1]
Ok. So how would.i go about getting rid of that knock and ticking? I did put some mmo in the gas and the oil. Right now the oil is not the 10w40 recommended in the manuel but 20w50. Its all inhad around the house and just wanted to get something in it to see if it would start. Plan on changing rhe oil soon to 10w40.
