No shield you almost have to have a good full face helmet. Get over 80mph and you'll be flogged by the wind.

Just a peek at her now without the Vetter fairing......(just need a darn windshield!) For the moment, I mounted my Stebil horn with wire ties to the Vetter mount so that I could have a horn for riding and testing. I am really liking the original Standard look!

Lookin' good! I might go naked on the '83. (At least 'till the cops tell me to put somethin' on!)
:smilie_happy: :hihihi:

Looking good Gerry, since you don't have the fairing on, you won't be needing those mirrors will you?
For now I do need them since I have only taken the Vetter off to test everything. Without a windshield, my fall riding season would be real short! I will be putting the fairing back on for the fall and winter while I build up the funds for a windshield. After that.....there might be a set of mirrors available!

You know what might be cool, adapting some Interstate saddle bags to my Hondaline quick release mounts!

After the trip to Joe's and seeing how much stuff Brian's bags held, I might just have to look into this. I am not ready to swap out to Interstate racks because I hear too many stories about how much time it takes to get them off to do work. My bags, turn the key, pull the pin and they are off!

I was able to acquire a set, but you know what is usually first to go when something falls over. I am just having a hard time drilling holes in the fairing.

And yeah, removable bags with a turn of a key were nice, but those Interstate Bags can haul some crap! Changing the rear brakes today, I missed my Vetter bags.

Last night I started to put the Vetter back on for fall riding and discovered why so many turn signal mounting tabs are CUT OFF!! I thought I could just turn the brackets inward and install the fairing. NOPE!! Those mounting tabs catch the inside of the fairing all the way around!!! (Not one of Craig's better ideas!) Short of sawing open the entire base of the forward end of the fairing to allow the tabs to turn inside of if, it looks like the brackets will have to come off again! :whip:

I do not have the money for a windshield and will not until spring at this rate. Make matters worse, in order to get the brackets off, I have to drop the front wheel again and pull the forks. Normally not a hard job EXCEPT I just broke my center stand!! :head bang:

Looks like I will be doing some creative jack standing to get the front wheel off...... :builder: :head bang:

Last night I was successful at removing the headlight/turn signal brackets and re-installing the fairing.
Getting enough jacks and points to hold the bike upright without the front wheel on and no center stand was a real treat! :whip:

For now, I am ready to ride for the rest of the fall and winter!

Hey that's my bike!
The shield is a bit noisy at speed but I'm still fiddling with it. (angle, height etc.) I'm 5'10" with a long torso. Also I wear a 1/2 helmet this time of year. 3/4 spring and late fall. Things might change.
As far as the seat goes, I know everyone's arse is different but for my 160lb body it not as comfy as it looks. I'm only good for an hour on it without my Airhawk pad. Your arse may differ.
NEDan, did you ever make any windshield mods? I am curious how it worked out.

I see from your pics that you took the passenger backrest off for a spell. Still keeping it? Possibly needing a new home? (Hint Hint! :ahem: )

time for window shopping.... you might want to consider looking at a plexifairing 3.. I put one on my v45 magna.... I don't like riding with out a screen in front..getting hit by the wind is tiring... the plexi 3 is the largest with lower legs all clear so nearly not a real distraction... the plexi 2 is the same without the lower section..and the screen is about 30 inches wide at at the handle bars grips area.... just my humble.."hate the wind" opinion...

Gerry, how big of a screen do you want? I got one with the 1200 that I am not going to be using. I think it is 18" at the most, but it is better than nothing and the price is right. :)

Brian, I am actually saving up for either the Plexifaring III or Slipstreamer trying to get similar protection as a faring. Thanks for the offer! :thanks:

For the moment, I have my Vetter back on with the lowers for fall and winter riding. Come next spring, I want the full windshield!
