this is the left side of motor when putting in cams if you have all the sdjusters backed in and snuged with lock nut ,,,the carrier will fit all the way down if you have the keyway in about this possition before trying to put it on top of the cam and head...this is what i call a nutrual spot and it makes it easy to put together not fighting the valve springs ....also at this time the pistons sould be sunk 1/2 way down in the clylinders ...one sunk down 1/2 way all are ...from a t1 posistion its 90 degrees turn of the crank bolt

position of right side keyway

here is a pic of one of things in switching 1200 to older 1000s and 1100 heads ..inner belt covers of the 1000-1100 heads wont work on 1200s for some reason they made a lip stick out on the 1200 short block on this side of motor ...and the 1200 inner belt cover wont bolt up and not easaly moded ...i am going to use the timing cover bolt itself right now to hold it throught testing

now that the cams are all in ...it time for the belts ...from here on a project like this ...its easy to get the radiator out of the way to put belts on and for sure its the best way to go

im not sure you can see in the pics but at this point pidtons are sunk and now you need to turn the cams to where the up mark is up on both sides ...from here im taking off tensioners and turning the crank to t1 possition ...then put the left belt on as it is the inside belt ..to me its easy with the adjusters backed off to just move it till right slip belt on and use tensioner to hold it like a wedge ...then start the bolts in tensoner and go to othe side

now its timed again and ran through hand testing with crank bolt

pic of the dyna ignition im useing and with the radiator out like it is it will be even easier to go through the wiring good with access being good for tomarrow thats it today

yah ive been moving slow hands all tore up eric ....i think today i will go after the ignition ...put the dyna in and check for spark through relay if thats works then i can mount relay and move on to carbs ...

sheesh ive been at the bottom of IQ range cleaning up the water plumbing system on to of the 1200 ...someone used hard permatex on all the gasket surefaces even the o ring stuff.... this has taken many hrs to right the stuff was caked everywhere ....sheeesh ...im glad i finaly got it clean time to install now

some pics

i used raisin bran gaskets on the water feed to the head
image.php

trimed off the excess raisins
image.php

this is a pic of the relay im installing to bypass the 37yr old wiring so the ignition is all fresh feed to dyna coils ...i could have moved on to the to finishing this and dyna picups installed on the head ...but im kinda recouping my hands there all broke out and swelled up so just doing little at a time now till better

"Rasin Bran gaskets"..... :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:
Does it have to be Rasin Bran, or would Corn Flakes work just as well?
Neat trick...I've done similar stuff myself! :good:

I think the most important thing is how much FIBER there is in the flake! :smilie_happy: (Wouldn't want the cooling system to "clog") :smilie_happy:

i bearly made it through the day ...i spent most of it trying to rebuild the 1000 advancer i had ...that was stuck to the cam that i had cleaned up and ready for install ...touching up lobes for new part mix installed in head ...timed and all ...took me forever to get the stuck thing off then while rebuilding taking old points rotor off ...all i really did is loose two c clips ...any lucky to have a caked or advancer that was ready for dyna rotor install cleaned it all up the best i could while together and go with it it seemed t work good even if though it looked like crap ...happy to have made progress to getting the dyna on
image.php

sheesh it was rough road getting here
image.php

this a pic of the dyna hook up to the realy output terminal to the coils to power the dyna...now the only wire left to hook up on relay is groud ...and install it to shelter

some time finaly to work on bikes ...going to try and comferm spark on the 77 with relay mod on dyna system ...i have to adjust valves again and time the dyna also ...want to comferm good spark before carb rack install ....will see how far i get haere have camera will pic .. :builder:

going to looking at exhast options to today ...got some four into four strait pipes i might try

well i got the ignition hooked up ...tried two different dynas and settle on the earl modle i had ....and ive got spark through the relay ...the coils are hooked to it only ....nice white spark it looked today really overcast here and also inside building ....this was kinda neet checking spark before setting the dyna or the valves and no plugs and no carbs totally safe totaly safe .....well i figure out whats the lines are on top of the 1200 ...all you have to do is leave one loose and turn the motor over ....its as bad as leaving the timing cap off and starting one up ....oil went everywhere :smilie_happy: it just cant go any other way for me ...im going to cover the motor with oil somehow everytime ...im batting 1000 here
image.php

its kinda a mess but you can see the 2 dynas i tried one hanging ....everything worked as planed kill switch works ...and the starter works and the headlight dims with the starrer buttom ....carbs next lets see 1100 or 1000s time running short on decission
