My friend has a bath that size and he has a gallon can of WD40. He pours it back in the can when done and reuses it next time. Never seems to get overly dirty. I can't figure why, but that's my natural state of being, anyhow. :blush:

Right well II bought some carb cleaner concentrate, so it goes 1-8 dilution with ordinary water. I can get just 2 L of solution when the head is half in as you can see in the move, so I give 2 x 20 minutes on each side. I set the temp for 60 degrees C, it can go up to 90, but although the metal will take that temp, it's hot to get it out on the fingers. :heat: But it cleans very well. If you note the colour of the water it changed from slightly pinkish /clear to dark grey inside two minutes, but it is noisy as you can hear.

The heads are now away to get vapour blasted and the valves and guides checked out and re cut, back some time next week.

I actually bought it in the first place to clean my LP records. They are hard to replace these days, and they haven't been played for several years well since I have been back in England and I came here in 2004. You can see what I got it for initially, as it is SS it is easy to keep clean. By the waay Dan how do I tag it?

Nothings up guys, just Christmas getting in the way, making stuff for my family and friends. But seeing this I need to get my heads back, start painting them. will post pics asap.

Okay we go one step further, we are now down to getting the engine sorted. I took the heads off and they looked a bit mankey, corroded and full of carbon deposits. As I had a spare set of heads I decided to go with those, they were the ones in the Ultrasonic bath. Due to my age, and my "workshop" being over full I decided to let them get done by the one guy I trust around here. He is old school and knows how to treat heads like these. So off they went a week later he said sorry they are not done yet. One valve has a hole right through it, WTHF, I have never heard of that before, neither did he or hasn't seen one anyway.

Okay I have time enough so I took one of my old heads then he had a choice of 4 as he didn't remember which valve, Oh he says the top hats I had given him for the valve guide seals were far too small. Now I bought these from a Honda specialist as being the right ones, nope, but as luck would have it, when I brought the bike back from Holland I bough a full gasket set, and low and behold Top Hats in the pack. Now the head is read for collection, so my question was how much, it is a lot of work to clean up a head, and regrind all the valves so I was expecting 3 figures, but have been shocked by the price, £40, that is all, okay £40 it is, that is about 51 dollars right now.

What a great dude. When I get them back I will make some pictures and post them tonight.

So here are the promised pictures of the heads now, first one how they were before cleaning with the ultrasonic cleaner and being media blasted I say media as the guy who does it uses different media in his blasting machine. So I know he vapour blasted but with what don't know, soda I think.

I had one valve with a hole in it I said before I will post a picture after I get my food. :hihihi:

Sharp, clean heads. I have to look into that vapor blasting. I have a cabinet for use with walnut shells,glass beads and such but this vapor blasting is interesting.

It is just water and Bicarbonate of Soda, so you need two heads one for the water under pressure and the Soda also under pressure. if you go to Eastwood you can get the idea there IE https://www.eastwood.com/autobody/blasti ... sters.html.

I don't have an Eastwood's here so no point in buying for me but there are English alternatives.
 
So not last night as promised as my hip was killing me, but done it 10 minutes ago, so here is the exhaust valve that has the hole in it. I have photographed it on a piece of white paper and with the arrow to the hole. It is very small and doesn't go all the way through as I first thought but is right on the mating line when it was bedded in.

I have never seen this before on ANY engine before, clearly had the hole gone all the way through then I would have had compression issues which as I remember I didn't have. So just shows you that had I just reseated this valve I would have had problems down the line with a burnt valve.

I think it may have been a blow hole in the casting that has only come out during a regrind. can happen I am sure,but anyway that is fixed now. Juts need to decide on the colour of the engine block. I have just has a set of my Winter wheels re powder coated, the colour is real nice a sort of anthracite with a bit of sparkle init. I will post a wheel on here as this colour looks good and so should the engine when down with the ivory white too.
any way thanks guys I am now off to bed.
 
okay so as to the colour that I am leaning towards it is on a wheel but it should give an idea, so the engine block and heads, piping shall be done in the cream or ivory some of the flat covers too. so here is a wheel that has just been done.
