not trying to hijack your thread.
So when I install mine on Sunday-I need some type of relay?? What else do I need to complete this install. I want to ride it on Sunday after putting this on.
I'd suggest you review one of the many threads that already exist regarding relays.
I'll give a super short overview of why this comes into discussion...
Your battery power must flow from the positive terminal to the fuse block (usually), up the frame to the ignition switch, cross the old crusty contact points, then head to the kill switch, where it must once again cross the contact points there, and finally reach your coil. That power then feeds both your coil and the C5 ignition module, correct??
Any spot the power has to run through a 30 year old set of contact points is a spot that could potentially cause brief moments of "low or zero" power, which for electronics, is a very bad thing!
If you install a relay, your battery power now goes directly through the relay, and straight to the coil and ignition module. Your stock wiring just turns the relay ON, it no longer has to provide the long path for a larger load.
So what the guys are saying, is get the thing running. Don't lose sleep over relays and other things. Just get it running. Worry about adding a relay (electronic locking relay would be the preferred type anyway) later once you have your ignition in place.
If you have questions about the install....my phone is always on so please call.
