Ansimp » Fri Jul 05, 2013 8:38 pm":1sqwwvth]Voltage reducers are either attached to gauges or built into them. There are some threads on how to build a cheap ic powered 7v gauge regulator

I saw the video, good plot development, soundtrack was a little iffy, an appearance by Glenn Close or RinTinTinn would have been a great addition. But my gauges don't look like that. The temp. guage is part of the tach whilst the gas gauge is on the faux tank.

Busy day today. Rode around the neighborhood. More on that later.

Was going to rebuild MC, but when I was loosening the lever it broke free. I took the lever off any how. I rebuilt the MC on the 400four and it took me several days and a lot of vocabulary to get that first circlip out of there. :head bang: The reach down to get this one looked even further. I decided to see if the MC would work and not leak as it was. So far so good. Both front calipers were stuck, I used the grease gun method to pop them out. Messy but safe and effective (FDA approved)

Reassembled and reinstalled w/ new upper hose, will replace lower hoses this week. The upper hose was too short, Here's a couple pic's, are these original bars w/ a funny mount or replacement bars w/ a funny mount. You can view full size in my album.

And my final question: which one of these things is that 7 volt regulator that y'all speak so highly of?

My guess is rectifier, winner, and don't know what that is.

Ride went ok, except the rear brake sticks as well. The PO said, "The brakes stick." He must have been getting some bad gas mileage. It freed up after a little, I'm hoping just changing out the fluid may fix it. That's why they call me delusional.

My guess is the far right bottom pic is the 7 volt regulator. But I'm guessing. Someone who can verify should chime in soon.

As a further clue, the finned thing w/ the round label has 3 wires hooked to it, apparently.

You can probably read that. As you can clearly see, it doesn't say, "7 volt regulator" or, "Scooter, here's the dang thing preventing the gauges from working." Either label would be clearer to me. Thanks for listening.

Just to be absolutely clear, the finless square one should have been labelled "Here's something to look at if your gauges aren't workin' Scooter"

:thank_you: :thanks:

The reserved lighting unit is actually labeled as such. I'll post a nice picture, y'all can label it if you'd like. Be a big help to me, I know. Thanks guys.

Ansimp » Sat Jul 06, 2013 7:22 pm":339zmy19]That appears to be correct, but when in doubt follow the wires/circuit!

I am unable to see a second voltage regulator on my Clymer wiring diagram for the '77; nor is it mentioned in the text as far as I can tell. That diagram also shows 2 condensers, I have one only, like the 78 diagram. The '78 diagram shows the 7v regulator and 1 condenser, but it shows other stuff I don't have. You folks have been a great help so far, Thanks. :thanks: and soon I'll be :moped: On another front, the radiator fan did come on after my neighborhood jaunt today.

Haven't posted in a couple, trying to run down the wires for the front end. At first, the turn signal turned off the headlight. Checked wires in the Vetter and mapped the 9 pin connector to line up w/ bike plug. My wires have faded somewhat. Now have everything working except the headlight. The low beam is very dim, the bike wire I think it should hook to has only 11.4 V, the High is worse ( 10.5 or so.) These bike wires are switched w/ the lo/hi button on the bars. Is it true that the low goes off when the hi comes on? Also, when first turned on, turn signals seem to beep for a long time before they flash. The first beep is about twice as long as the rest of them. Is this normal? Do I need a new flasher unit?
Been tuning the carbs, getting better.

Thanks.

I know I saw something about that here, I'll fumble around, please post me a link. :laptop: --->If I figure that out, can I just hook the wires from the bar switch to the vetter 9 pin cord? What about the wires they're hooked to now? Does that spaghetti end up in the reserve unit or go to the original headlight bucket? Thanks in advance.

Sorry I posted whilst you were posting. :whistling:
