Yes, because I believe the broken teeth are from the stator/alt drive shaft. I'm hoping that I can just pull the old one and replace, clean out both halves, then put it back together. not only is this my first split, it's my first anything. I'm 6 months new to any bike motor....

Is there a raised casting anywhere on one half and a lip or casting on the other half anywhere that you can use to gently pry apart at? I know your fighting the honda sealant as well as a precision surface, you just need to breach it a little someplace to get the rest to fall in line.
Dont want to scar the sealing surface of course.

This is a "crappy" video of what I believe to be a naked engine ready for splitting. If anyone sees anything that is alarming or that I missed please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

now back to engine SMACKING!!!

I think the "drive shaft" behind the stator (that shares a chain with the starter motor) has broken teeth. Atleast the teeth that I found in the rear case match the teeth (off of another alt. drive shaft) perfectly, that's why I'm headed in that direction.

there is 19 bolts on left engine case. 3 bolts on right side case. lay the engine on side so left case is up. pull shift arm away from shift drum. partially separtate the case halves and install supports between the cases and towels under pistons. lift off left case. this was all taken out of a book.

You could try lifting the one side with a rope around the rafters, lift maybe a 1/2 inch off the ground then whack the other side with a mallet(maybe a plank of wood to protect the other half when it drops). Not sure where you could secure the rope on the engine, Head bolts I would say but it might bend them and they need to be strait.

The case halves are glued together with sealant, and the dowels are usually rusted/corroded. There are a couple of areas where you can pry them apart, just don't scratch the mating surfaces.

Thanks Zman, but I actually have a split case to reference. That's how I'm positive that I have removed all of the bolts. I'm sure it is just an issue of the dowel, glue and me not hitting it hard enough or in the right spots.

I smack it a few times then shoot penetrating oil down the center where they merge together. I'm sure it will pop loose sooner or later.

BUT, here's my new issue.
I went to Western Honda website to order the gasket kit, but they offer a kit A and a kit B? I have no idea what I need. What's the difference and does any one know which kit I need?

I would think one kit is a top end only and the other a full kit, 3 kits I remember are those 2 and a water pump gasket kit.
I would suggest Ricks stator or electrosport..both can be had on their website or maybe a better deal on ebay, I always shop around.
Also there is Willies stators, heard some good things about his stators but never have used them personally, Think thats a wood plug on it? Warranty will say allot for a product, 1 year usually says something and is about what you should get.

I'll finish splitting the motor tomorrow and changing whatever is broken. It's on!!!!

I'd like to get a gasket set that someone on here has used before. So, if anyone has used a gasket set and is satisfied with it, let me know where you got it from.

thanks
