Once a project starts. The scariest words to hear are "while we're at it".
:smilie_happy: Thats for sure but regret is worse.

Both of the cranks I gave you need to be checked for tolerance before using. The '82 crank (rustier one) had a spun bearing on it (I think) and the '81 engine had seriously worn bearings (remember that wonderful copper color I showed you on those bearings?)

If you are going to continue, I would pull the '82 crank out of the block and get that broken piston off. The crank may be OK otherwise and might be a closer tolerance for your current '82 bearings.

The '81 crank is already clean, but you need to check it first! I would hate to see you re-assemble and find out the crank is still an issue.

Did you see any other engines over in Glassboro?

Ok, I'll pull the 82 apart and have them both checked. In the mean time, I'll be looking for another engine that I can just throw in there. The rest of the engine just seems to be so perfect I don't want to ruin anything by rushing just so I can ride.

The guy in Glassboro never came to the door, so I didn't get to see what he had. The guy who took me over there said that he will keep trying to get in touch with him and when he does he will give me a call.

I guess I'm back to hunting for an engine.

Check the number/letter codes scribed on the crank throws, the three main bearing codes stamped on the front of the right case, and the number/letter codes scribed on the connecting rods. There is a chart in the manual that gives the color code for the main and rod bearings using these symbols. You might get lucky and the replacement crank uses the same bearings...they are hard to find!

Thanks, I'll be digging into this tomorrow

I would guess if you had the block and crank from an extra engine you could switch the crank and all the bearing provided they are all good, all I seen was a crank on the floor, did it come with a block and bearings too.

Yes, I have a crank with no bearing (that needs to be checked) because the bearing that were on it were toasted. That's the one you seen on the floor. I have another crank that may or may not have bearing issues. I won't know until tomorrow.

Here's a 1000 engine at a good price and shipping isn't too bad. Might be good enough to drop your carbs on and ride while you fix the 1100.

Jeez, cant believe how rare old wings seem to be in your neck of the woods, CL has not much except this parts bike in New Orleans..Wants a premium and no mention of the block.

I'm actually not in pelican state. I'm in the garden state (with the bike). I know where there are 4-5 old wings in my area just sitting there. I think when I get back, I'm going to attempt to just buy them up.
