replace the long bolts that go though the cover though the pulley and into motor with short bolts that hold the pully to motor and a short petty one that gose in the cover to fill that hole. then you can check your belts by just undoing the ouitside bolts on either side to take the covers off. ive had mine that way for a long time and have never had any problems with it. it sure is nice to be able to take the covers off so quickly without the bs of those iner bolts dan.

inside bolts i left out and filled the hole with shortys,

Granted it is a bit of a chore to remove the inside bolts, however if you unbold the radiator and pull it forward a bit it isn't that bad. I have always felt that there is a good reason for all the bolts to be replaced in anything I'm working on. Personally I think it is well worth the effort to install all the bolts on the timing cover. The other thing is what is keeping the "shortys" from coming out?

I'm not sure what you mean about mortor block on pulley. That inner bolt doesnt hold anything but the cover, 2 other bolts hold the pulley so I don't see any reason to put anything in that inner bolt hole in the block if you don't want that inner bolt on the cover.

Alllllrighty then I got the Belts and Oil Filter Ordered , O'Riley's auto parts , ( Gates ) Both for less than One would have been at the Honda dealer. I feel like I done good...... I pick them up Sat. .... thanks to everybody for the advice and help.

i dont know maybe im remembering that wrong its been awhile since ive been in there and my memory is a shorty to . but it can be setup to have the outside bolt takes the covers off im sure of that maybe i dont thionk it was a dream

well I got the Timing Belts and Oil Filter today , so...... even though it's has been pourin rain , and I didn't get anything done to the Bike today , I feel like I am closer.

I have had some sanding dust flyin' .... :smilie_happy: but this old age thing gets in my way sometimes. what I used to do after a 12 hour shift at work , Now IS a 12 hour Shift .

Yeah the bike has about 50,000 on it , but I have no idea if the timing belts have ever been changed , and I don't want to take a chance. somebody painted it with what looks like spray can paint , and it was dry sprayed , No Shine at all , and it needs the Carbs clean out too , so I'm gonna do all these things at the same time , and it should be ready to ride for a long time I hope.

Ohhhh I forgot to ask , is it a big job to change the timing belts with the Radiator on the bike ??? or would I save time and work to just drain it , take the Rad, off , and put new Anti-Freeze in it after I get the new belts on it .???? I mean I know it's in Time right now because I have rode the bike......... but I'm wondering if I could see the timing marks with the Rad. on the bike.

The radiator does not get in the way of the timing marks, but I would pull the radiator anyway. I pulled it on mine when I changed the belts and went ahead and changed the thermostat and put new hoses on it while I was there. I also stuck a hose in thermostat hole and flushed the engine while I was at it. It makes the belts job a lot easier and you can get rid of old rubber hoses at the same time.

yea if you like keeping your blood inside you body id take it off and do just like andyb said . the hoses are probably going hard to fined theres an auto hose you can buy to get both hoses out of but i cant remember nothing about it maybe someone else dose . you can just loosen radiator pull it forward enough to do the belts with hoses connected if you cant come up with hoses but you will bleed a bit good luck

On mine I went ahead and pulled the radiator, reason I didn't know how long the antifreeze had been in the bike, and I wanted fresh hoses. I don't know if anyone else had this problem but I found when aligning the right hand cam gear (cam for #1 & #3) the cam wanted to move because of #3. I had to hold the cam gear in position while I installed the belt.

Yep, that is normal!

I thank you all , it has been beautiful weather here in East Tn. .. and after all the Snow and Ice , the yard was covered with tree limbs , I have spent the last couple of days cleaning that up and burning them , But in between jobs , sanding and Primmer on the Goldwing. Thay say a chance of Rain tonight but still warm , so maybe I can really set in on the bike Sunday , Everytime I go to town I see Bikes everywhere , and I'm really getting the fever.

Sledge, I think we are getting the same weather as you. I have been lucky enough to ride to work everyday here lately. It is a short ride, but it keeps me from being completely jealous when the other bikes go by.

Good luck on the paint.

as far as pulling the radiator.. makes real easy to see the crank pulley. and putting the belts on.. I was changiong forks also so the whole front of the bike was off.. from wheel to fairing to lowers and front covers..

yeah I have no idea what HAS , or has NOT been done to this bike , and I think it might be a lot better to remove the Radiator , and I already have the fenders off getting them ready for Paint , so I might as well just remove my front wheel too , and put new Brake Pads on it .and Rear too .. and when I get it all back together it should be ready to ride.
