rearranged the garage, cut the back grass, rode the 450 up and down the block a few times then took a cool down ride on the Mighty CT70, stopped for a pic with heavy equipment before heading home

The 1500 rolled over 75,000 miles on the way to werk today, so I treated it to an oil & filter change! :clapping:

Taking the 87 to get it inspected so it is legal to be on the road once more :)

Yeah I need to do that too :whip: :whip: :whip:

I felt sorry for it... it had been sitting quietly in the corner of the shop while I was working on the 1100, so when I finished that, I had to put the Big ***** back together again. That thing puts a smile on my face every time I ride it.

Little guy could fit inside one of those tires

Love your pics, William.

Finally decided to take another attempt at the beater car's steering vibration issue today with the noise that sounded like it was coming from the passenger side. Swapped the right front hub/bearing assemble last attempt, which didn't work.

I swapped the passenger side cv half axle, then started on the driver's side. Just to discover that the driver's side hub/bearing assembly was shot. Grrr. I checked that last time, but it seemed fine.

Oh well, at least I saved to front hub I took off the passenger side. So that'll work for now.

I just need to purchase the super special transmission fluid tomorrow and then I can finish the job. Oh, and level the car, since it has a fill hole instead of a dipstick.

After many losing battles, I FINALLY won a war... a Kawasaki FH721 25hp horizontal shaft in my neighbor's Toro zero-turn mower. It was a long process of troubleshooting a left cylinder that was always dropping out. I found that the compression was low... valve adjustment brought it right back. Had the carb rebuilt by a mower shop while I replaced all fuel lines, filter, pump... checked intake manifold, gaskets, and heads for leaks, replaced the ignition coils and spark plugs.

Finally found out... after disassembling and inspecting the carb again, that one of the welch plugs up on top was kinda loose... not enough to fall out, and not enough to be noticed... until the engine warmed up and was vibrating, right? BIG vacuum leak, totally random.

I pulled BOTH (there was one on each throat of this two-barrel carb), and made solid tapered aluminum plugs, slight interference fit, with a groove for 2-part epoxy. I mixed some high-strength, applied carefully, drove them both home, and placed the carb upside down on the bench overnight.

Reassembled this morning, and that engine runs BEAUTIFULLY!!!

Usually, welch plugs either stay put, or fall out.... but usually stay in tight. The 8!7*# of this one, was that it was barely in there enough to not wanna fall out, but not seal.

The other oddity, is that I sprayed carb cleaner directly on both, and it had NO effect on bad running. Common assumption is that the spray-test would find a vacuum leak, but in this case, it did not. Henceforth, I will not fail upon that assumption again... at least... not with welch plugs.

Did the jets work out? I gotta get my 1200 in the shop and sort out that #1 dropping, and give the clutch slave a rebuild...

Didn't ride the '79 today. Rode the '78 (Johnny 5) rescue to a car show about 33 miles away. Ran fair - still stutters some but pulls hard and pulls away from a stop smoothly. Also very mild backfiring, sometimes even burps at idle. After I got home, I got almost a full turn on all exhaust nuts, so that might be part of it.

I'll ride the '79 tomorrow afternoon and see if it has improved from the slow jet swap.

There was an open invite to ride along with the Harley marketing manager to this show. Since the shop was on my way, I stopped off and then rode along with her (the others that were supposed to go must have partied too hard last night she said). Only about 10% there were masked. I kept my distance most of the time. She got in trouble, though.

Great pictures! I'm certain you made sure that Barney Fife's bullet was securely stowed in his pocket?

Ah- Herr Wilhelm... were you, by chance, on board during the torpedoing of SeaLady? :-D One of my partners was a dolphin who knew Rota well...

Surfacing into the SeaLady was ~69, I believe - I was on the 632 '75 - '79 (ten patrols in all). Rota did a great job of repairing the damage and sending her back to sea in one month. Normally a CO was unceremoniously shitcanned after such an incident, but this one became the Annapolis CO.

I believe Von Steuben still holds the record for submarine peacetime tonnage!

Rode the '79 yesterday evening for 100 miles of mixed interstate, rough backroad, and smooth 55 mph 2-lane. Low rpm much improved, but might go even more on the slow jets. I've used my 110s on the '78, but have micro drills on order to turn some 60s into 110s and 100s.

I rode here for fun and ice cream

If I didn't know any better, this looks like a DQ I used to frequent in Ottawa. Same style of location and such. DQ has the best ice cream.
