This pulley is awsome--3200 miles and not one problem with the charging. Used the gps, fuzz buster, cigarett lighter, and the 12 volt cooler all at the same time. Plus the lights.

The only thing that came close to a consideration was the red line came close on the temp gauage for some distances--BUT it was 105 degrees at least maybe hotter in the sun and badlands.

I'd say that was a real good road test for this conversion. With the temps that high, road surface was probally above 150 degrees and pulling a trailer to boot that doesn't sound to bad.

wow im so happy about the succwess of this thread and all the people involved that all help each other get through things....3200miles ....dont just discount the temp thing...i actualy think the crap gas makes the oldwings run hotter than they would with decent gas they were design to run on...keep and eye on it wilcoy

Yeh that's why I mounted my fan onto the heat shield, it was easy enough and I put that sucker exactly where I wanted it.. It's different but then again so am I..I have no idea how the 1000 is set up..

This is why I encourage everyone to put pics in your gallery, very easy to find them later.

Yeh you guy's are right  , I don't know why I don't have them there, but I'm going to load that sucker up tonight  , so if anyone wants to see my stuff it will be right there...The only reason for sending you to my post is because of the explaination that goes along with it, I just didn't want to have to re-write all that [I'm lazy] but yeh, my gallery should be full of all kinds of photo's, later tonight...

I founded them....quite a creative little bugger, ain't-cha? :eek:k:

Yeh Dan is right fella's place your photo's in your gallery or album.. Hey guess what,,,I heard from Wilcoy,,,,I am so honored that he sent me a post card from Sturgus SD, Wow.. I did not expect something like that...Here's what he wrote, he said the trailer he made gave him fits going up because of the lights, but he fixed the problem, he said the weather up there was awesome and that there were thousands of bikes...the post card he sent me, really really made me feel good, Wow I was just blown away and my wife too..Going up to Sturgus and being around thousands of other bikers and friends and for him to walk into a shop and take the time to write me a note on a post card and send it out to me, just blows my mind....You new guys on here, now you see just what kinda members we have on here.. :music: Hey you guy's wanta see the card? wait there.....View attachment 2View attachment 1 Sure it's a personal note to me, but I wanted to share this with the group and show you just how cool it is for me to be part of this ..My own brothers don't even send me stuff like this..Thanks You, Wilcoy... :eek:k: I guess his conversion and pulley are doing fine...

The last of the pullies are now all gone, a member in Cananda 82a is going to be recieving the last one, he paid for it yesterday and the pulley went out yesterday
came today!!!!!  :thanks:

i was real lucky, thought they were all gone but ended up with the runt (V type) of the litter :Egyptian:
,
also have one of those mini ALTs, planning on it for the winter

thought about mounting of a cam pulley but ..no info on it and one concern is i don't think it would seal as well as when hidden in the center, not to mention it is now well tested and surely a more robust mount point, i'll be looking at it though

i'm also interested in center top mounting the ALT like someone (naked site) already has with a GM ALT

i also have the BBC spacers for the lower rad hose

i read on the 1200 site about alum v belt pulleys needing or are typically hardened, don't think that has come up here

The machinist assured us hardening wouldn't be necessary with this high grade aluminum.

ahh ..missed that part,
these were the comments i ran across awhile ago

"Most pulleys are made of steel, this one is aluminum, as I recall. Rubber against aluminum creates a high wear factor on the aluminum. Most industrial aluminum pulleys are hard faced by coating them in special powder and running them through a heating cycle which creates a hard and durable surface"

Sir would you like to return it and I will send your money back...It's really not a problem...I did not know this about the pulley being hardened like that.. If you guy's want to return it and it's not been used I will get your money right back to you..No problem....I won't be doing this anymore now I don't think..Someone else can pick up the ball and run with it.. :Egyptian: I wonder if you could find someone that can still harden it like you are talking about..But if any of you guys wish to return your pulley because it didn't get this procedure please just pm me....It's no problem, I'll get your funds right back once I get the pulley in the mail..
