Any longer rides yet for the Wanderer? She really need some exercise after sleeping so long.

Her front forks are currently off, so no rides in the near future :(

Still rebuilding forks. Want to double check something. I will be installing progressive springs and they say fill with 20w fork oil no higher than 5.5 inches from top of fork while fork is collapsed with the spring absent.

The Honda manual suggests filling with 8oz after disassembly. I somehow wasn't paying attention and ended up filling with 11.5 oz and it was still below the 5.5inch mark. I guess the safe zone is below this mark. Do I need to go back and empty to the 8oz?

I would drain completely over night and refill.

If needed, Progressive install in the Gallery.
Agreed. I thought I already posted this but installing the progressive springs reduces the amount of fluid needed and the book suggests ATF not fork oil. 20 wt oil is probably too thick.

Plus one on ATF unless you really want a pounding with the progressives and higher weight oil.

I don't know why they suggest 20 wt. it was too harsh for me so I went with atf.

So are you suggesting 8 ounces of ATF?

If memory serves and it doesn't always. I think it was 5 oz. Check the progressive spring install instructions.

Run your forks up & down to get air out of forks, then you get a better idea where your at, when you measure like they say. I personally use 15wt hydraulic oil in mine with very little air, but i like the front end taught, more so than many, but my tires wear nice & even just like they should.

The progressive spring install instructions does not specify an exact amount. It simply has a safe zone measurement and an unsafe/limit of 5.5inches from the top of the fork. I'm assuming i can vary on the amount as long as it doesn't surpass safe zone.

YES, you want both forks to measure the same from the top. A special tool is made to space the oil at the same distance from the top.

Either way works, just leave at least the minimum space, or measure the amount of fluid, after pumping all the old oil out, & replacing the draining screws into the forks.

Guess I'm confused on all the discussion here. Why not just add the 7.4oz of ATF like the book calls for and be done with it instead of worrying about how many inches you are from the top of blah blah, and such non-sense.

You are right. I guess i was thinking backwards focusing on the 5.5 and displacement of oil since new springs changes all that.
A common weakness of mine which is overthinking. I did dismantle the entire fork so will add 8oz.
