well the jetting change quite a bit from video ... idling much smoother now .. jetting will take awhile .. but as stated before grab bars are great... shovelking grab bar mod seems to be my choice for sure ... there is no air leaks ... this is not a mod that dosnt have it hard spots to deal with ...bars actually are low and need to be built up some to clear thermo housing on hooch ....stainless steel is hard to work with .... things are thin in runners and flange ... so I did all cutting and drilling by hand ... doing flange holes with sharp punch and good skinny round file once I got hole big enough .... the runners tubes were cut wit hand hack saw ... gaskets were made by hand too .....hose had bends in them for the angle one needs on 2 of the runners .. this is important to me as it was no stress on runners to increase air leak possibility ...

I am not advocating 1 1/2" runners for all oldwings but shovelkings 1100 runs with them ....pretty much done for the day here time to relax some and be happy the outcome is what I wanted this time ... nice when things work out :yahoo:

What was your idle speed Joe? Hooch certainly sounds nice and crisp :good:

it was bouncing there at 1100 to 1500 ... ive change jetting again ..it will take some time to get right but manifold is right and working good ... still fishing :fishin: for right jetting

I though you were a bit high. The Rats Nest idles around 1000 cold and 1200 when warm but as it starts first bang without choke I am not in a hurry to mess with it atm. These carbies are exactly as they were pulled of Alex80's 195000 mile 80 GL1000...

Sounding good, Joe! Gotta love the plywood spacer!

what would one expect from me anyway LOL .... it work and really has no discounts to it :hihihi: :thank_you:

I have been thinking a lot ... after the last few days of getting hooch ..the times that I have ran it and the outcome of the weather on the single set up discount of icing or better put high humidity .... I view the colling system on a oldwing as a homogenizer to bend temps as equal as possible ... with the single set up ive got ...I have already put in crankcase breather into air box ... this give a porporchioned air flow of heated air and lace with some oil content or what ever else is in there ... not much comes from here on hooch but some ....

I have to keep going to windnwing bike with the CC single set up that has full flow homogenizing temp control on there set up ... he has never once complained about icing isues on his bike ever in the yrs hes been on this forum ... so its hard to call heating the manifold not necessary ....when it seems all other manifolds seem to not do well in certain conditions ... like I have had the last few days here ... this is not good enough for at all .... plus I don't think you can ever get the jetting right till manifold and motor are as one with the cooling system making that as close as possible by heating up manifold .....id o think that the carb actually creates the problem ...DUH.... when it creates the charge for motor ... but to think that the problem don't spread and heating the manifold is useless ... is very short sighted ....

so on hooch now that I an here as it is now with very tight manifold ....it is time to advance from here to a like CC set up heating system as close as I can get ... don't ask me yet what that is I don't know at the moment ... but have a lot of things on my mind ... that are not strait CI stuff and set up ....

the things people have tried here like dan skirri and others is a good source of info to build on and I really appreciate how this forum works together on things ..... the bank of info is huge ...

on hooch also ... I am going fully dressed ... as this is the only way I can ride anyway ... my plan for heating the air some in the sort term is to enclose hooch sides in ... starting with the slang title stator cookers put on ... and also on top of that the vetter full length lowers put on this will almost be like or will be like 1500 set up where carb system is buried in the bike ... the 1500s don't ever seem to have cold weather issues ... even stock oldwings have more issues with cold weather than 1500s ... also going to duct some ram air from back side of radiator to air box .....

this issue is big to me ... cause it creates raw gas in the system of not compensating for that and it will get in crankcase and this cant be overlooked ... and add to the problem ... please blab some thoughts on this

Fully enclosed in there may be enough once the motor is warmed up. Might want the resistors on the plenum to heat or preheat until it's all up to temp.

it was nice and windy today hooch was suffering no moisture issues ... seemed fine ... I learnd one thing today ... couldn't get hooch to idle down good ... where I was at ... but when I was pointed down the hill it wouldn't idle at all like I had to adjust the idle screw again ....

any way went for ride ... did really well .. I do think ive got quite the adjusting to do as far as jetting and all ... my excellerator pump shower nozzle seems to be leaking at o ring and not coming out of shower and kind of dribbles out ... then on the way home it quit about the same spot it always dose ... time for carb to come off and clean or I might go to another carb I have here that is some what bigger in the barrel chokes at 24-25 as oppose to 22-22 and the secondary barrel is bigger also at 32-34 as oppose to 32-32 that's on there now ... it tack out well to 8000rpm but I can tell theres more to get ...on the ride it seems the bigger runners may have lost some down low performance ..this is not necessary a bad thing on hooch its full of down low power ... on the hiway I got into it a bit it ...second gear really jerks up and your over 60mph quick going to 3rd I just started cruising and it ran well .. think I am going to put plenum chokes back in ..just made differently as I am starting to see it has advantages ... but not sure ... anyway good ride it was till it quit not sure why yet but must have trash in the carb is akll I can think at the moment ...

when I had this bigger carb on before I got it to idle much better than this carb ..and I think it might fit hooch better in match up to motor capabilities :builder:

Got gas? :whistling:

this time i do have gas.... its light out time to get with it on this bike .... may do carb change ...

ok went for ride .. hooch is back to lots power right off idle ... the primary barrel seemed weak and then when it hit secondary ...the hit was hard .. but again it fell off some ... so i didnt push it ..i only rode after that to feel what it was doing with slow application of throttle...then came home

really i worked all day trouble shooting the smaller ..32-32 ...then decided to change carb ... i really like the manifold i got now ... it is tight ... its very easy to unbolt the entire carb tower ...plywood plate gasket on up ..undo throttle cable ..gas line at pump.. pull air box off ...take the whole tower one piece bolts gaskets and all right out the top ...

it took awhile to get other carb ready as it is not complete deal yet need some gaskets and rearrange fuel delivery to use the top that comes with the carb ... i like this carb as it was factory made with no power valve ...anyway i got it ready .. put in the jetting it had it all seems lean to me ...and tried it .... the video was taken on second run .. i let it sit to kinda heat up a bit ... then started it got to where i thought the temp was right played with till i got it to idle and took the video ....

it is now time to actually jett it in ... it was obvious the idle jet was to small from when i got it to idle ...

i am very pleased ... it was also obvious that the 2mm bigger venturri choke brings in more power down low ... i think hooch is going to be all over this carb ... funny how close i was from the get go on this single carb deal and definitely did not have enough figure out to really see what to do

i am totally convinced now this setup will be as good as any carb system out there ... if hooch can make use of the 2mm bigger secondary barrel and its 3mm bigger venturri choke ....this should really be a maxed out carb system for this hooched out 1200 motor :thank_you:...yes eric
