Some people have ALL the luck!!! Great score! I guess I'm having a bit of luck too......got the head pulled a few minutes ago.....bent intake valve (I already knew that) exhaust valve looks OK. A few marks in the combustion chamber but nothing that won't clean up. The offending screw DID make contact with the piston but the piston doesn't appear to be cracked....just a shallow gouge that should clean up as well. A friend had a top end gasket kit (still sealed) that he no longer had a use for...freebie. The head will go to the machine shop this week for a full evaluation....hopefully the seat isn't trashed....from what I could see it doesn't appear to be torn up.

I had the engine at T1 to loosen and slip the left belt off....right belt still attached. Is there any problem with carefully rotating the engine to get the piston at TDC so I can clean it up and evaluate it?.....would I then just continue around to T1 again for re-assembly or do you have to go an extra rotation?
If the belt still on is in time still and the head is off the other side there should be no issue turning the motor by hand.

Right head and belt are still on.....belt wasn't loosened. left head is off. Timing mark is at T1.....#4 piston is at BDC (or close) I need to get it to TDC to clean it up.

I guess what I'm asking is.....do I need to turn the engine one rotation or two to get everything back where it is now for re-installing the belt when I get the head back on?

Not certain but I think it will need turned twice to get back to where it is now. You will will probably want to replace both head gaskets while you're in this deep already. Don't want to get a few hundred miles and do it again.

I'm only doing the side that the screw dropped into. The bike only has 33K miles...I think the other side will hold up fine....

I put in the new water pump, installed the seal, replaced all the O-rings and had one o-ring left over (crap!) checked everything twice...finally came to the conclusion that I took an o-ring from the parts left from the last head gasket job on the other bike. Some day this is going to catch up with me...I hope its not pointed out by a leak somewhere.

Picked up the trailer to bring home the 77 tomorrow. And finished up sanding the fairing (again) for a respray. The paint just wouldn't play nice Sunday so I got to do it again. The lowers did turn out nice on the first coat that's where I stopped..

Been riding the last couple of days/ night and managed to blow the park/ tail light and gauges fuse. Already running 15amp in the tail fuse as my 18w x 2 led bar spots run on that circuit including all the additional Vetter lights ( even though the rears are LEDs) Blew it again today and spent time giving all available culprit wires the wiggle test. Think it might be all the junk/ etc in the side pocket that could be causing the short. Eventually it will manifest itself and I will repair it. I really need to pull off the windjammer and clean up the connections in the standard wiring and provide constant power and accessory feed in the spare wires so that I can run my alarm/stereo correctly.

Got to ride my 84 yesterday to pick up tie rod ends for wife's cage, took the long way + home. :yahoo: Only drivers side had a grease fitting, :cheeky: sooo reorder other side & wait, :head bang: probably wouldn't make much difference, as its a 90 with 140,000+ on it, but its a Honda, & I like the idea of a way to refresh grease in joint, keeping the steering nice & smooth, & wont wear out again. :good: Hope to ride today, sun but in 30's, so faired bike if I venture out, if not work in garage on 91, tires, brakes, clutch, & brake fluids, + anything seen in need of attention . :headscratch:

Put more primer down on the fairing. Two more coats to go than wet sanding painting this weekend. I thought about using the other fairing on my bike the trim edging is perfect. I just might do it. Wired up the front blinkers on my bike. I'm going to change the sockets out to a dual socket instead of a single. I'd rather have them on so cages no it's a motorcycle not a headlight out or something. Going to a car and bike show Sunday too. Have a great weekend all..
