I've got a 76 and just did a lot of disassembling to pull the tank. It appears one needs to remove the silver shaft drive housing to get the tank out. Can you confirm that?I welded up the hole, sanded down the rust spots, and painted the swingarm on the 77. Mind you I was just going to clean the brakes but ended up pulling the gas tank to prep the rear half of the frame for rust repair and paint.of course that begged a thourough clean and flush on the gas tank...the dominoes keep falling..,
No, you don't have to pull the swingarm to get the tank out, just everything else but that. On my last one, I pulled the swingarm so I could prep and paint the frame near the rear brake mc because the leaking/spilled brake fluid had removed so much paint in the area. The tank is a close fit, so be patient andvlook for where it is hanging up. As I recall, you do have to pull the gas spill tray drain hose because it is that close of a fit.I've got a 76 and just did a lot of disassembling to pull the tank.
