Would 1500 wheel conversion, rear end & axil fit car tire better? They are plentyful & stronger because of double bearings on drive side, wheel is taller by 1" if memory serves.

yes i think so .. ive never had the opportunity to work with one yet ....there may be a off set tracking thing in that mod ... i have read that but have no first hand knowledge of that .. yes yes i think that would dang near gear it just like the 1500 in tallness or very close with 1" taller wheel .....

Read about off set, & it's not supposed to be an issue.Rear end needs 4 holes enlarged in swing arm to fit i've read, early 1500's have same 6 pin drive as 1200's

i am hoping the light weight of the hooch bike will be all the 1200 wheel needs to be up to par ... as it is ..it seems fine so far ... i dont necessarily want any taller gearing than the 15" wheel provides ...i can tell it at a rather max level ... and the 1500 wheel though better would bring in gearing issues a torque stress levels in the to much zone ... with experience i had with the final drives ... i am at the opinion that the 1100 final drive and 1200 modded motor is the perfect match where tallness in gearing and fastness meet up ... the 1200 final seems one step above that and is ok ... and is perfect road gear bike for cross country set up with still gobs of power .....

so to be honest i dont think i will go for 1500 wheel mod for the reasons stated .... but do plan on modding the 1200 wheel so 15" car tire goes right on ... and is not a weapon to kill you putting a tire on ....me and blacklander are going to both go here ....

Only reason i mentioned 1500 rear end swap is its about the same, if not the identical to 1200 in gearing, & taller wheel is only a half inch taller from the ground, virtually no differance. There are more of them around, made them for 13 years, they are less expensive so a mistake would be less of an issue if it happened.
In regards to transmission's gearing.1200 has the best road manners of 1100's - 1500's. 1500's gearing is not spaced like the 1200's, that & rev limiter keeps speed down. If it was like 1200's top, end would be 150+ was dissapointed about this, but torque is (STUMP PULLING) power from idle to 5500 red line.

hmmmmm sounds interesting denver if i had the parts id would do it i think .... as i have previously said i woulnt do 1200 final switch cause of wheel ... now look where i am at ... you bring up very good points ....i certainly like the 1/2" wider rim of the 1500 ... i actually had the whole set up once brake and all for great price and couldnt come up with it ... i really have no 1500 experience ... but like you really love the gear spread of the 1200 motors

Yea if 1500 had same gear spread,it would be a real rocket with SOME TOP END!!
But its not, really a BIG disapointment!

Same here, Joe. Where I ride the city Winnipeg, has few roads with speed limits above 50 mph. Most are 45, so I am enjoying tearing the 16" rubber off mine for now.

that 18" lester you have eric just might be the perfect gearing setup for your bike as in fast .... i am thinking 1100 final might be the thing too.....it will be interesting how jyd build turns out

ok ... it is getting time to get serious with the rear wheel mod on hooches 1200 rear wheel ... ive test rode the bike to a point i am totally pleased where its at in gearing ...as it seems perfectly geared for the power the motor has .....it is like a touring geared rocket now ....it is also handling real good with no discounts at all ... so finding are to move along ..and modify rim to except VW 15"car tire .....

i am going to find a spot to raise bike ...pull wheel off ...remount wheel ....put it in gear ... and turn bare wheel down with something..... so it will be right size for car tire ..... where i live in all this gravel roads this will be huge safety thing ......oh and this is a blacklander suggestion on how to do this ....thanks mike

i need to find a car tire ...155 to possibly 165-80-15" tires will fit i think i will have to check that ..... tire unknown at all got me to the meet and greet and back but is wore out now ....its time :builder:

165/80-15 is suppose to be the right size joe, I'm thinking first gear, idled down low, large file with good hands or a stationary rest in place to work the file on, then super smooth it with fine sand paper, this is only theory so be careful !! I think it's between 1 and 2 thousandths is all that has to be skimmed off for the bead to seat.

How about engine running in first gear and the chain saw as your carving tool :smilie_happy:
