There are more power wires than grounds. I suggest you start with the ground wires. All need to be clean and tight connections.

I cleaned up all the connectors and repaired a broken vetter signal wire. And today, all the lights work as they should except for 2. One is the neutral light which stays on all the time (I know I need a new neutral switch) and the other is the hi beam indicator light. It doesn't work at all. I've traced the wires back and I don't see anything out of the ordinary. I think I will tackle the front tire replacement and get ready for my front caliper rebuild kits and front brake master cylinder rebuild kit. I have yet to install the windjammer lowers, engine guards and backrest/rack. The faux pieces need a cut polish and some touchup paint. Is the dark burgundy paint still available or what do you fellow wingers use for touchup?

So the GL1000 is almost all together. I have 6 pieces left to install. (I'm down to just 2 boxes of parts, from 20). The engine guards, Windjammer fairing lowers and the 2 pieces pictured below. I've looked at them many times but have no clue where they go. So, I'm coming to you, the experts to enlighten me!

are the pics above part of the vetter fairing perhaps?
No. Not sure what they belong to, but positive they do not belong to a Vetter faring.

These are the turn signal covers/mud flaps for the 1100 saddlebags - for instance.

Thanks Brian!! I had no idea. There is always another question or 2 from me. Is there a template somewhere for the crash guards? I notice that there is a tab on each crash guard that is broken. I'd like to fix them but want to make sure I build the tab correctly. Also, the bike runs but when I go downhill, it pops and farts and backfires. Up hill, it pulls beautifully. Does it sound like a timing issue, a carb issue....any thoughts? Thanks again. (Plugs are new, valves adjusted, carbs synced)

Decel backfire is likely either the fuel mix screws need adjusted or the exhaust has some serious air leaks or both.

Here's a pic of my bike...all put together. (before and after pics, or visa versa). I ran it for about 50 miles, changed the oil and oil filter, fixed an oil leak and tightened up a few bolts on the exhaust to eliminate the exhaust leaks. Then, I went on another 60 mile ride. Will have to adjust the fuel air mix screws.( It sure stinks cuz its running way too rich). I believe we set them 1 & 1/2 turns out but it needs to be 2, along with synching them all up together. :salute:

If you're using the stock 1000 rack you should be able to reach the air fuel mix screws easily. The 1 1/2 turns or 2 turns out is just a base setting to get the motor to run. Set the idle at 1000 and adjust one carb to highest idle rpm you can get. Reset idle 1000 and set the next carb to highest rpm. Do this for all 4 carbs twice as each carb affects the others. You can do this before or after synchronizing I've read but I prefer before.

Thanks slabghost and steve83. What would I be looking for if I took apart the air cutoff valve?
Anything stuck, torn, or plugged.
