Must be a double dip recession here......Sunoco is closing another refinery in Marcus Hook PA (thats #3 in 2 years), Conoco Phillips closed their refinery in Marcus Hook last year and the price of regular gas is officially averaging $2.99 per gallon for regular here in NJ!

you all moan about the price of petrol come to sunny old uk "not" and pay between £ 1.29 to £ 1.79 per litre thats £ 6.12 to £ 8.50 per gallon a total in dollars of $9.55 to $13.2 per gallon 80% of which is tax and you think your hard done by !!!! . But there is a way to better fuel economy , seen the idea over 30 years ago on tomorrows world prog bbc 1 , when the us , japan and uk were lookin at reducin the co 2 emmisions and extendin the mileage . the japs came up with a re breather system were the spent exhaust went back thru the carbs to burn again :nea: the us came up with a cat exhaust which only cuts emissions when it reaches 40 c so after 5 mins usually niether of which improved mpg :nea: . the brits at landrover however came up with the simplest idea ........ a spark plug  :shock:the gap on it was one qaurter of an inch so when a charge ran thru it on elec ignition it was not a spark but a flame or multiple sparks this burnt all the availabe fuel in the cylinder completely , result less emmisions plus more mpg .to prove it live on stage they had a v 6 range rover engine on a stand running ,they then turned down the fuel by one qaurter the enginge stalled they then replaced the plugs with the new ones and restarted the engine at the stalled setting it ran . then they reduced the fuel mix so it was was down to just one qaurter of the original it still kept on running  So i tried this with my wing to see if it was just bull i put 2 gas shims on the plugs and opened the gap up to 3 ,16 of an inch i then tuned down the fuel adjusters to 1 and a half and ran the engine it ran !next a took a spare can of fuel strapped to my back and with a full tank of fuel went for a ride out to the lake district and back and then to south stack light house in angelesey and back hme a total of 412 miles and didnt use the spare fuel . filled the tank up at the petrol station 4 gallons exact . meaning i got 100 mpg doin 70 mph average speed on points and condensors, note you run on a weak mixture so it runs hot so you have to put cold runnin plugs in also better coolant in your rad ,have set this up on my present wing and with elec ignition gap at 1,8th inch and i am gettin 60 to 65 mpg and no hot runnin

prices around here range from 3.35 and down to 3.15 in places... Alma MI. usually cheapest around.

Ha the brits had us all fooled 30 years ago.
but I'm not sure if thats really an answer to high gas prices???
since most of our bikes are getting 45 mpg or better, your increase of 20 mpg is awsome but your paying almost 3x more for fuel. humm... maybe the taxes are the problem.....
but wait..
Americans found a way around that over 200 years ago.... LOL..

just messin with ya bro.

this is very interesting ive done something simular when i put on electronic ignition in my 79 1000 ...it was gaped big also i didnt get 100mpg but it obviously did better....here in america they spend three times the energy to make our gas out of corn that is completely garbage ....there something totaly stupid about taking food out of your mouth and putting it in the gas tank

anyway thanks for the story it makes since and i think ill travel i litttle further down it ....

The reasons all of us have high fuel costs are the same. Demand increased with use and our benevolent governments have restricted and taxed our supply to absolutely rediculous levels.

A LOT of the reason petroleum products, including gasoline & sneezle, are so high has to do with the EPA not allowing new oil refineries to be built in this country. The refineries that are in use today are all at max output...they just can't process any more crude, which hampers production to meet demand...so the prices go up. Crude oil prices don't have nearly as much effect on final fuel prices as one might think... :read:

I read awhile ago there are hundreds of capped outlets in the Pacific ocean leaking.
Leaking suggest there's a lot of oil there, right?

Oil price is just so many hands in the pot, greed and like you say, taxes.
Hey what other product is so easy to rape people for. Gotta have it.

I'm convinced it's so a select few americans can scratch the backs of a select few arabs. Payola is the word.

I hope your sitting down when you read this :swoon:
im paying in this rip off country UK£ 6.90 = 10.81368 US$ a gallon for gas diesel is more exspensive :swoon:

The most tax (federal + state+city) I personally have seen on gasoline at the pump in the US is $.50 a gallon. It may be different in places I have not been in a while. It is currently just over $3.00 a gallon in my town and as low as $2.65 a gallon in Albuquerque.....I just saw it mentioned on the news this AM.

The other day it was about $2.80 a gallon in any gas station in Mexico, being a gov't. owned commodity sold through private franchise stations but for the same fair price to everyone, everywhere. My figures are a little off since it was 9.42 pesos a liter and at that time it was 13 pesos to the buck.

Everybody does realize that people are paying more for water in little plastic bottles, even from Costco and Wally World than what gas cost, right? And I have yet to hear anyone complain about it...Even a gallon of milk cost more than refined gasoline....!
