Just thinking...

If you can't find those big washers and you have a drill press and hole saws you could make some yourself. Maybe you could stick them on the runner flanges with JB weld. Then you only have 1 gasket to worry about.

If you made the OD...say...2 1/4" and the ID about 1 1/2" or 1 5/8". Out of steel or aluminum.

yes ... I have had those kind of things going on brian ... even wilder stuff like semi mud flap gaskets ....sheesh I am also stuck ...I got all the runners marked but no decent bit to make the hole in the flanges sheesh ... wasn't expecting the cheap bits to be worthless except for wood and tin foil

well out today to see what can get done ...sheesh guys I am have trouble drilling the stainless steel holes on the runner flanges ....so that the big deal today don't want to hurt the flanges there so thin ... also going to try and come up with spacer even if temporary to get going here ... sheesh lots to do and its getting muddy to get through with the slight problems I am having....pics coming I hope :builder: :thanks:

Gotta use high, high carbon steel, cobalt or carbide bits are best. I remember when I was young and dumb, the boss told me to drill some holes in stainless for a grain elevator. I stood on that half inch drill until the drill bit was glowing red for a half an inch up the bit. It barely made a mark. Google time, Joe.

Looking good Joe,I did my drilling on a drill press, do very small pilot hole first, then went to size, I cut my flanges out with a cutoff wheel on die grinder, finished them up on bench grinder, I thought I would have to space mine up, but when I got it bolted up it sits about a half inch above t-stat housing, ambient heat, lol , when you get it running if you need it I have a fresh DGEV 32/36 , was too much for my old worn out 1100 but may be just right for your hot rod, rock on !!!

A workmate told me once when drilling stainless keep it wet with just about anything and even cheap bit will work. wd-40, cutting oil, penetrating spray,
whatever. It does seem to make a big difference.

ok I cave savaged the holes in the stainless steel ... use a punch and dimple the flange and then grind it down .. did it the other way too ..and grinded that down and was able to get my rat tail file in there ... game over stainless don't stand up to file ...

after that I needed gaskets .... after looking the warehouse over ...I got some id say 5/32 hard rubber like mud flap stuff .. and have just now got them all made ... just have to cut out runner hole in them ... ill wait till tomorrow for that ... so a lot got done today ... tomorrow should be good day hope it warms some ....

thanks everyone on the comments .....lets not forget shovelking visioned this grab bar system ... it is not super easy to do but it sure is doable... and care has to be highest priority cause things are thin and hard ...

cant wait to get this all done and try :builder:

Yes thanks to shovelking for coming up with the idea to use grab bar for runners. I could not remember which post I had first read regarding this approach.
Works well and comes out pretty clean looking also.

got the all ready for mounting ... holes punched and rat tail filed in and gaskets made

this pics shows all holes in gaskets made of thich rubber ...stocks bolts way to long ...need to get something

other side just trial fitting .. now on to plate making :builder:

ok the transition plate is going to be extra big and out of plywood ... don't knoe what I might need the extra area to mount stuff plywood makes this simple and easy to trim back if need be ...today I will cut the carb hole and drill the bolt holes ....I like the way this separates carb and type4 as this it is easy to get to bolts now .. and on and off will be quick....

small pic of home made washers ....in a perfect setup .. id like to have washers same size as gaskets are metal washer drilled for intake and gasket glued on it ... another glued to flanges and the two together rubber facing down would be final set up ... notch for plug ...we will see if I can come up with something here...anyway that on todays table :builder:
