Looks pretty good but honestly it's a bit hard to tell that's a C.
I mean, I know it's a C but others looking at it for the first time maybe not?
Maybe it's just me.

I suggested he try making that inner circle larger, more like our standard logo but trying not to be picky since they are doing the logo at no additional charge. Here is the Gen 2 Goldwing cover.

I presume this is left, my '86 has a bracket bolted in to hold after market engine cover
If the swap left for right head was true, the right would have a hole, can't see it on mine but Honda service manual page 10-7 does show the hole, so the heads are symmetrical.

Can anyone tell me what screws into this hole (red arrow)?

file.php

Nothing in the hole on my bike either. I had read somewhere else that is was as Eric mentioned so I simply put a bolt in it just so the threads wouldn't corrode.

Confirmed - the red arrow hole is for the timing belt cover bolt.

You rock! For your efforts, take the rest of the day off.

:eek:k:

Well done Steve :good: Nothing better than questions answered with pics

Today we played with the first set of production parts and test fit onto a GL1200 and GL1500 cylinder head.
Since we built in a bit of "free play" for production variations we wanted to see how close the parts were to perfect.

Well I was shocked to find out my measurements were within 0.003" in all directions!!
Since the encoder disc has 0.250" slots, we essentially hit the nail on the head.

So I got back in the old truck (with 276,000 miles), drove 35 miles back home, test fit onto my own GL1000, then drove BACK to the machine shop to run off a few parts so I can design the correct disc spacers for the kit.

I was hoping the timing cup would be a bit smaller, but the GL1000 has extremely wide mounting holes, and the cam post sticks out about 1.25" so we are stuck working around Mr. Honda's design team. As you can see in the pictures, the cylinder head of the 1000 does NOT match the valve cover. It causes the timing base to sit crooked and there was a huge gap at the base!!

I took one of our gaskets from the previous 1000 kit and used it to fix the issue. Now its watertight and the timing base sits square to the cylinder head. Tonight I am on the lathe making spacers for each of the cylinder heads.

That is all for now!

Looks good.

Thank you. I've got to figure out a few minor things but we are making very good progress. The fit of the cover onto the base is nothing shy of amazing. I let my friends Alan and Ken design it. All I told them was I wanted to be able to ride under water with no failure, but they could not use a gasket.

OHHH you don't ask for much do ya!? :smilie_happy:

I am going to make a video with a water hose directly on the housing to show it off. Also I told Ken I was going to drive over one of his covers with my one ton 4x4 diesel van to show how tough it is....he freaked out. :music:

At least you aren't using a 78 mercury marquis. That is a heavy beast. Be sure the tires are clean. Don't want to scratch the finish.

I have all the bases and covers finished now. The standoff and cover hardware arrived, all we need yet are the gaskets which should be finished early this week.

Thanks for the emails, phone calls, and PMs about this kit. I never expected such interest.
I'm glad we decided to "go for it" and make a kit that includes the 1100/1200/1500 engines. The emails from GL1200 owners have been overwhelming!

Sorry I haven't posted better pictures yet, I've got several big projects going on right now and haven't been home much.

I am still waiting for the back gasket but I snapped a few pictures of the housing today. We added the chamfer to the outer edge which I really like. It makes it look a bit more "finished" (my machinists words).

Slabghost gets the first production model but we'll be installing this preproduction model into a Goldwing 1100 this weekend.

I'm feeling a bit better now that the end is near. The cover fits over the base (look closely at the base...you can see the lip) and this will be incredibly water tight without a gasket.
