Temp sensing seems to be fine with the T off the stat housing and coolant flows look good.
Gauge goes to 3/4 white scale, fan comes on and temp quickly drops.
Road test will prove that out better.

I told steve83 on the trip picking up this engine the driveshaft spring clip isn't going on til I know this engine is good...

Chicken.... :smilie_happy:
Glad ya got it together and running, especially with the front mount iggy!! Do you plan on installing the external alternator on it? I noticed in the vid the voltage was kinda low....just axin.. :eek:k:

Oh my my, the additional torque is nice!
Better have a hold of the bars when twisting the throttle.

Shifts feel good and all 5 gears are there.
Temp is running low and stable, no bubbling into the reservoir so head gaskets are good.
Tappets are quiet.
So far I got extremely lucky with this engine.

They are fantastic engines, tough, tons of torque and smooth and no more valves to set. Glad it's turning out well. With the mods you've done to it, it should be a screamer.

It is amazing what those extra 100 cc can do, isn't it... Now just imagine what it is like when the bike has been put on a diet! :music:

The fun has begun!

Started pulling stuff off for the switch, 1200 engine going into the 83- 1100 frame.

Sizing up the manifold fit......

It looks like ABS pipe clamps will solve the wider spacing of the 1200.......

I don't like that there will be a space between the runners and the plenum, I worked hard to fit them right up against each other but I'll run with it and modify later.

I worked hard to fit them right up against each other but I'll run with it and modify later. Perfect choice of words .. run now modify later :rocks:

My curiosity got to me and I did a little gearing calculations on your set up if your running the stock final drive for '83 versus the stock '86 final setup. Then I ran the combo setup you have, 1200 engine with stock 83 final and tire/wheel size. With the combo setup you have now, at 60 mph you should be turning 119 rpm less than a stock 1100 engine and final setup. Not much difference. If you went to a 85 up 1200 final setup you would turn 369 rpm less at 60 mph over the stock 1100 setup.

hmmmmm mike it should be exactly the same as 83 1100 ... the trans are axactly the same from 83 1100 to 84 1200.....only the final drive and wheel sizes are different ...me thinks :headscratch:

That's right Joe, I punched in the 85 1200 gears instead of the 84 which is the same as the 83-1100. My mistake. At 60 mph, stock 83-1100 should turn 3415 rpm, stock 85-1200 should turn 3046 rpm. The 1200 trans gear changes occurred in 85 with the first and fifth gear ratio's.

Sorry for the mistake. I'll go sit in the corner now, with my little "dunce" cap and pout for a couple days. :swoon: :smilie_happy:

The difference now will be this engine is much quieter mechanically and no more knock.
Ahhh......that quiet sound of the motor purring and then realize how loud the knocking really was! When I started running around with the swapped out (quiet) '83 engine, I was shocked to realize how much noise the tires made! (Never heard them over the '81 knocking! :hihihi: )
