What surprised me was skiri didn't hear the knock and he said mine was quieter than his!
I heard the opposite :smilie_happy:

Yes.
Maybe because of the mufflers...

In any case, you now got even more torque. I envy you!

I think too that I've been listening to that knock for so many years, and trying to tune it out that I'd always hear it.

First shakedown ride, 15 miles with 4 on the freeway.

Torque is great though seems a bit down running on the stock ignition. Hard to say.

Gears feel good. Sure clicks into neutral easy.

Temp runs normal.

No oil leaks, thank you Permatex.

No odd noises except for 1 that's hard to describe.
Low rpm letting the clutch in first there's a howl, almost a rubbing gear noise. I've heard it on the 1500 and 1800 I rode.
Doesn't do it with higher rpm starts and seemed to just about go away once warmed up good and by the time I got home.
I'm thinking everything in clutch area needed to get lubed up but does noise sound familiar to anyone?

Single carb works great too!

It's a bit 'shakey' at idle, a bit lopey.
Idle was smoother on the 1100 but it's got no alternator load right now. The 1100 was much the same with the external alternator belt removed.

Acceleration is very smooth with no transition hiccups or flat spots of any kind.

I'm likin it!

Here's a video, the noise is easy to hear.
Sounds to me like a spinning shaft getting pulled off center and rubbing something.

Kinda hard to hear the noise....
Have you tried it with the bike on the center stand? Or does it have to have a load on it? Could be a clutch chatter..... :headscratch:

As I'm letting the clutch out you can see the bike move forward slightly then as the clutch gets to about 1/2 released, can hear the noise.

Centerstand is fine, has to be under load.

I'd hafta guess it is a clutch noise. Maybe a different oil would help? You said it just about goes away after a while...
Go to yer local Autozone(or call first) and see if they have any of this stuff. Autozones around here do carry it. Put it in the oil...it will not hurt any engine components. IF the noise IS the clutch plates, this stuff will fix it....assuming the clutch is not worn out, that is. This product is engineered for wet clutches, to modify the friction co-efficient so the cutches will not chirp/grab/chatter. It will not make it slip, either. Worth a shot.

I got the same noise in my 86 but it only happens the first time I crank it almost every day, then it's gone. Sometimes it goes for weeks and doesn't do it. I have been trying to decide if it was the starter not disengaging quick enough or if it was the clutch. It's been doing it for couple years and no problems other than the noise.

That noise seems to come and go.
I'm pretty sure my 1100 engine made this noise at least once when riding 2 up and starting out on a steep up hill grade having to slip the clutch.
I'm not going to worry about it.

Put on it's first 100 miles.
Ride was mostly tight 10-35 mph up hill twisters.
It did good.
Mpg at 32. To be expected. I'm a bit surprised it was that high.
I was on it with hard accel pulling up out of the corners scraping pegs a few times.
Went a short trip on pacific coast highway.
Lots of Harleys and sport bikes, lotsa cops too!

I can tell the spacing in the intake runners is causing raw gas to load up at the couplings, it sputters on takeoff after idling for a minute. Not a problem so it's staying this way for awhile.
