Pretty sure a member posted recently his cam pulley "up" was down and it did clear. I don't recall if it ran but it sure didn't act right.

If the cam is 180 degrees off, then the crank is 360 degrees off ( 2 crank rotations for every 1 cam rotation), so it's in the same position. Cylinders 1 & 2 are both at TDC on the T1 mark, 3 & 4 on the T2 mark.

The rotor shaft is keyed to the crank with a pin into a slot, so it can't be off. The mechanical advance plate is keyed to the rotor shaft, so it can't be off, either. BUT...the rotor turns freely on the advancer plate, and can be installed 180 degrees off. If you disassembled the mechanical advance plate, this is how it should be re-assembled:

Hope this helps... :beg:

Yep, just checked it.
The rotor will spin 360 but it's the advancer arms that hold it in place, and the rotor WILL go back on 180 degrees out!
If you have time, and want to, could you take some pics to further clarify it? I accept that it is true...heck...I proved it can be done! :smilie_happy: Just think a visual would help.

Thanks fellers! :clapping:

Got the pulse generator cover bolted back on, got the new front braking pads installed, and a new air filter in this evening. Should be able to start putting all the ancillary items back on this weekend.....crash guards, floorboards, light bars, exhaust, etc.

Sound is crappy so crank up the volume to hear me.....

(There's a notch in the rotor to accommodate both arms, I showed only one)

EXCELLENT! Thanks Dan! Now we know beyond a shadow of a doubt the actual rotor CAN be installed 180 out.

Good thing is, there is enough room with the cover off to remove the retainer bolt/washer, and twist the rotor back to where it's supposed to be. Too bad I dint think of it before putting the dang cover back on... :Doh2: :hihihi:

Progressive old age Joe. Remembering part of an issue very well, but then it drifts into nothing. :hihihi: Have to laugh but it AIN'T funny. :salute:

Can't argue about that, :nea: just try to keep it in basic, & simple, cause i forget if i don't! :smilie_happy:

Too funny Joe! You sound like my students haha

What I tell all the kids and other's from the current computer savvy generation goes as follows:

Think of it like your personal computer, the more data and files you store the longer it takes to pull up the information you need.
So considering the age of my processor and the amount of information stored in my memory compared to yours it still works great.

I don't know if this analogy is true but they nod and get it, and I feel better,
