Very nice, indeed! :clapping:

It's gonna be a different bike, Joel...you might have to re-learn how to ride it!

Yep! He messed up and tightened the carb linkage and set the floats. Reduced drag and weight cleaning and polishing. Dang thing will probably have 10 more horsepower and respond faster than expected to the throttle. :Doh2:
:smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

Youse guys...yeeesh! :smilie_happy:
I guess it's a gud thing I gots a backrest, eh? At least it will keep me from falling off the back when I gun it, right?
I figured since I have to pull the farks to do the steering bearings, I might as well polish them too, since I still got the polishing wheel mounted on the big grinder. I'm gunna attempt to polish the chrome on the exhaust up a little, if possible....at least the rear sections. I polished the "Rolls Royce" grill yesterday, just for spits & grins, and it helped it out immensely! Looks much mo betta than before.
It's gunna look a little better, overall, but....it's still a turd....with lipstick.... :ahem: :thanks:

So...the engine is ready to go back in. I had to spend a couple hours this merning cleaning up in the garage, and making room to put the engine, while I work on the rest of the bike. Problem is...it's all together now(the engine), and a wee bit heavier than it was when I manhandled it onto the table to work on it.
I had to figure some way to get it down off the table so I could bring the bike back in and start on it. I thunk to meself..."WWJD?"(what would Joe do) :hihihi: My solution? Got my fold-able ladder, and opened it up around the engine, instant "A" frame! Used a cable come-along to winch it up, and slide the table out.

I have a small roll-around tool tray that I don't think I've ever actually used, but it came in handy for this. I lowered the engine down on the tray, so now it's low, and mobile!

Rolled it out of the way, to have room for working on the rest of the bike.

Got the bike uncovered, and ready to roll back around to the garage.

Got the forks off, and the steering head torn apart. Bearings were WAAAAY worse than I had imagined.... :builder:
Nasty stuff under the top nut.

Upper bearing is basically locked up. What used to be grease is now hardened glue. The rollers will not turn on the inner race. I'm absolutely certain this is Mother Honda installed parts...they have NEVER been serviced, or changed. Reckon this is what was causing my death wobble?
Lower bearing wasn't as bad, but the race is pretty hammered.

I'll be doing some parts cleaning tomorrow, and might even get the new bearings installed. I might wait on the bearings so I can take some of the front parts to the shop and clean them in the washer there. Still have to mount the tires, too.
It's getting closer, guys!

Decent day today...a wee bit o progress...
Got the bearing races knocked out of steering head.

Wondering what the heck this bracket is for?

I've noticed before the bike leans to the left when on the center stand. It did this even with the old stand, before it broke....which I'm now assuming is WHY it broke. When on center stand, the left "foot" of the stand doesn't touch the ground at all.

Got all the tupperware, and chrome stuff off, rolled it outside to de-grease the frame, as much as I could. No sense in installing a nice purdy engine in a nasty ol' frame, right?

Once cleaned, I found THIS! Never even knew there was one there...

Cleaned, and back inside, to remove the rear wheel/tire....this one's for my bud O-man... :hihihi:

And here it is...a nekkid Turd...or as nekkid as I ever plan to have it.

I did a little vid of the worn out drive hub, so all could see how bad it is, and why I got a new one. The new hub fits nice and snug...no movement at all.

Got both tire dis-mounted, too. That's all for today. I got a ton of crap in the car to take to the shop tomorrow to clean. Should be able to start re-assembly next weekend! :yahoo:

Looks like the kick down arm on the center stand is bent enough the very end has become the "foot" for the left side leaning the bike to the right. Nice progress so far. Looking forward to your reassembly.

My thoughts exactly. As for the tire jokes... I really tried to stop. Know that I'm constantly looking over my shoulder as my bad Karma will one day bite me in the arse. I scan the parking lots at work and home daily for tire hazards.

~O~

Thats awesome stuff Joel. How you gonna member where all them thar parts goes :Awe: Im thinking about steering head bearings on Sexy Bit@h as well. Got my hands full with the motor now though, and I am always shopping for my next project. Huntin for an old 70's small frame CB.

Arggggh....not much progress this weekend. Got both tires mounted yesterday, and rear tire/rim installed. Painted a few things, steering head bearings installed, and that was aboot it. Today, I had to get the weeds grass whacked down, so not much time, or energy for much else. I did get both forks polished, tho. I ran into a problem I've had before....it's called "What the f :sensored: k was I thinking???" :Doh2:
I'm getting to the point of just not wanting to finish....so much werk still to be done, and I'm forgetting where a lot of stuff goes, and where some of it even IS. I am not remembering how to run the electric/cable stuff on the front end. Does the harness/cable stuff go UNDER the gauge cluster, thru the center, or what?? I just stuck the forks up thru the triple tree to see if it would shake my memory loose, but it dint....still don't know. Need some help here, fellers...

Also...when re-installing the front rotors, I did THIS... :head bang: :sensored:
Snapped off one of the friggin bolts that holds the rotors to the rim...

New rear tire mounted

Forks polished

Semi-installed for now...

My polishing rig...

I have a seminar to do next weekend, so I'll not be re-installing the engine, as I had hoped to be doing...

It's too late now but I always take a lot of phone pictures on a tear down and transfer them to a tablet for reassembly reference. I buy a box of large and small sandwich baggies and label them per the components. Lastly larger things get masking tape labels. This process coupled with an OEM service manual and a well experienced forum group work great.
