I finished removing the fairing....then I started small by replacing the illumination lights in the gauges with LEDs while the gauges were still wired up...then buttoned them up, removed them and set them aside. Then I attacked the carb rack (this is my first wing so this is all new to me). Got everything disconnected...the manual and a thread I found both said to remove the tops of #1 and #3...well, one of the screws would NOT budge! Lo and behold with a bit of careful wiggle and jiggle the rack came right out! I'll get the carbs drained and the outside cleaned up and then I can bring them inside the house where it's warm. My only issue was a bad accelerator pump diaphragm but I bought a full rebuild kit.....I'm planning on replacing everything that doesn't affect adjustment. Once I get it back together w/ oil change & valve adjustment I'll pull the forks & get on with bearing replacement...

What leds? I am researching how to wire my own led panels for the 12v system. I was going to integrate them into the rear fender. Are you doing a underglow kind of thing?

No....just upgraded the illumination 0f the tach/speedo/temp/fuel gauges

Cool. Did you solder in resistors too?

No...they work without resistors. I thought resistors were only necessary when putting LEDs in turn signals with an old style flasher...

That is also my understanding, no resistors needed for regular bulbs. Also, if you know what pin configuration your blinker relay is, you can just replace the relay with an led blinkered relay and no resistors needed at all!

The LEDs must be replacement bulbs with built in resistors ( drops 12v or 24v ( different value resistor) down to 2v approx)) so that they work with 12v. The LED flasher bulbs need big resistors to provide the same current as the incandescent bulbs so that the load sensing flasher can works. You can use a fixed flash rate flasher with leds but if one or both aren't working the dash still flashes at the constant rate ( load sensing will flash fast or not at all). I am not using led flashers as so far they are not bright enough IMHO atm and as they don't operate constantly the power consumption is minimal.

Good info, that basically reinforces what I have read about it so far. I am going to get rid of the guage cluster and just run a shift light and warning lights. I am not used to having things like a gas guage, so I won't miss them. I can do without a speedo too, it will help me pay better attention to the gear I am in. I am going to run small leds to the gas tank for warning lights, they will be semi hidden. I really wanted to chop some wires, but I am not sure which ones I can chop and get away with. I need to have someone who know electronics better look at the wiring diagram for me.

As of right now, I am going to try and get the carbs rebuilt and installed before Monday. They will take a lot of polishing. I have been polishing off 30+ years of corrosion and grime off of every piece I put back on.

From what I have read, you can hook up led's to normal lights (non blinking), but they will burn out faster. And that it is necessary for blinkers to blink. Resistors for all is basically what I read.

I've gotten quite a few parts in lately, my back room looks like I'm running a warehouse! [emoji2] I'll soon be starting a new thread for Trixie's facelift!

I was just talking to Kevin @ superbriteled.com. I asked him about the Resistors in the leds etc. He told me that the LEDS he sells are set up for replacement bulbs. Also they carry the flashers. When I put the first set of LEDS in I did see that the light was constricted somewhat. Mine are the twist lock style. So I put the bulb in the hole an slowly moved it in. The light was pleanty bright for me they were warm white. Not the best choice in color but still bright. Now, after I put the LEDS blue light in the socket they were a nice look But being that the paint was old on the gauges they were harder to see. I reordered the Cool white bulbs https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinf ... ower/2077/
they offered me a full refund for the ones I purchased. I will be keeping them anyway. But it's nice to know this so you don't keep burning money trying to figure out what you need...

I also now have my new voltage regulator and the black box that go's next to the battery .

I got the Wincycles kit from Ebay... complete kit for $139. I really only needed the accelerator pump kit but since I have the carbs off I'll open them up, inspect, clean and install as many of the parts as i can... I don't want to fool around with floats or anything that involves a lot of adjusting since the bike was running great until the accel pump started squirting out gas

Yes...those should clean up nicely.....they look a bit better than mine. If it wouldn't have been for that damn accelerator pump going bad I wouldn't have even bothered with them

They do look promising, :good: lot better climate for all types of metal, they can be ridden pretty much all year, a real plus to keep the carb's jets open!

carbs look rather good they should clean up and work .....

I sure hope so. These are the first carbs I have touched in about 15 years so...
