I'm in the process of doing a quick refurb on my carbs. The accel. pump was the problem issue...there was lots of crud in the pump, I can't really tell if the diaphragm is actually torn. Should there be any kind of gasket sealer on the float bowl gaskets? I'm suspecting that somebody was in there before and put a bunch of sealer on them...#3 had a bunch of gel-like goop in it...thankfully I couldn't find any jets plugged up (although I installed the new jets that came with the rebuild kit.) Speaking of the rebuild kit.....all four kits came with the parts to rebuild the accelerator pump!...diaphragm, spring, cover and bellows. (missing the float bowl O-ring for the pump, fortunately the old one seemed good.) SO....if anyone needs to rebuild their accel. pump and doesn't want to spring for a kit LMK...I'll part with 2 of the sets free---you pay shipping. Carb #1 was much cleaner than #3...just a tiny bit of crud in the bowl. Will be finishing #s 2 and 4 this evening

I'm inclined to run with the old jets since you say it ran great.
New jets offered can be questionable.

Btw, your email notifications are still being kicked back undeliverable.

That's strange....I changed it (or at least I thought I did) I'll check again [email protected]

Bad pic but the rad is in! I decided not to use the metal hose protector spring like thing on the top hose as it will never see any rocks, and I got a shiny new cap for it.

And I got one of the carbs boiled, cleaned and the lids polished. I still need to set the float level. I hope I did it all correctly. I lubed all of the threads with a touch of grease, because dissimilar metals and all. I polished of the cylinder part, on the inside where some wear marks (a couple other high wear areas too). I used 800 grit. I also had to dremel a flatheat slot in a couple of stripped screws (from PO, not me). It will be nice to see them polished on top of the engine. I am also going to paint the intake pipes black and shine the rubber (they where a pain to remove). Anyways pic...

In case you where wondering I used a tan, a white and then a red compound for the polishing, no sanding needed.

Fired all of them up today one at a time, & all did great, :smilie_happy: didn't run em long, just enough to run smoothly. Then made sure battery's are fully charged, didn't take long to start or charge, :good: there ready to run when the ice melts on drive, & weather cooperates. Temp came close to 45 today, can't get warm here soon enough to suite me.

Weather was nice today, so I got to RIDE for the first time since putting in the new seals on the rear shocks. Apparently.....I forgot to put AIR in them after getting it all back together. :Doh2: At first, I thought I had a leak, but once I aired them up this morning, they held all day, so I guess I just forgot to air them up before.
Sure rides better now that they have the proper amount of oil, and air in them.

put 5 miles on it,yesterday.insurance is good last night at 12 01.but rain came first.runs great.the sound is awsum.some custom mods.loud pipes save lives.my motto.i adjusted valves to compensate.for exhaust.as most stock carbs do.it pukes and chokes a little ,until choke is off,and warmed up.then its fine.and fast.yes I can be heard 4 blocks away.and in the distant shifting gears.just like I want-it. :music:

Went out Wed, on newest 84 standard for 20+ miles, hit 75 mph was very cold @ 45 degrees. Yesterday did over 130 miles, on my 87 & was great day, out again today before the rain hit. :clapping:

Used rubbing compound on the 86. Cleaned up the bag tops, side covers, and the false tank. Tomorrow I will attack the trunk with compound.
Tonight we should be shooting primer on daughter's bike. She's getting antsy about the slow progress, but I want her to do most of the work so she will understand what is involved in "re-paint my bike".
