Changed the timing belts, tensioners and plugs today. Still lots to do yet but at least I heard her run and the tensioners were in fact the problem.

UGH! So frustrated right now, I had a nice ride planned for the Mrs and I to ride down to the coast have lunch and come home a few hours later. I went out to warm up the '78, which has not failed me once since I brought her home in August, annnnd....nothing, I'm fairly sure the solenoid has gone out. I found a couple of broken wires on the solenoid so I fixed that, the bike fired once, then nothing! Oh well, there are plenty of places to lunch here in town.

That's annoying but at least it had the CGW sense to do it at home rather than ruin your day down to the coast :(

Ansimp, I totally agree! Much rather break down at home! I think it's actually a wiring issue, I can't imagine why, it's only 37 years old...;)

Hello all.. I'm in a bit of a jam here now. I ordered a front master cylinder brake switch for a 1978 GL1000. PART NUMBER..45530-410-305 THIS is 78 master my shaft is smaller in dia..This is for a 78 gl but my master is a little bit different.. The switch I need mounts into the master with the handle it self slide action. Dose anybody know what part number I need..? :

Also I picked you the front master cylinder rebuild kit

Let me try this againn I ordered a front master kit for a 78 .gl The kit came with a shaft that is bigger. My master is smaller in size almost like the size for the rear. The switch I ordered is for a 78 as well. But again my has two screws and it mounts into the master using the handle to slide with the switch not a push button type.. Sorry I have low blood sugar when I was leaving the first post..

New shifter seal installed along with new steering head bearings(that was fun...not), oil change, tires installed on rims and some blue led strips under the belly of the bike. She is still about 80% disassembled but we should be finished tomorrow. :builder:
