Spent another day on and under that 87 Fiero!! Rusty brake and transmission cooler lines leaks, rear caliper not getting brake fluid, etc. Murphy (and 32 years) have been rough on this car. Emergency brake is cam-driven that locks the rear pistons with a screw action. Easy to set, horrible to get to release. Goldwings are much simpler!

Tomorrow means fixing the rusty lines, getting the rear caliper to work correctly, bolting down the intake manifold, and plugging everything back together so we can try to start it. A good time will be had by all!!
I had an '86 back in the mid 90's. Couple years of every-other week maintenance. Great business idea of a parts bin car, but since no parts were really designed for it, not really reliable. I guess the '88 would have been a much different animal, but Chevy put a stop to it in fear of loosing Corvette sales (Ha!)

I had a 86 GT 2.8 v6 EFI manual four speed ..motors were garbage couldnt keep a rod from going out ...good power ..handled great till they broke loose in the rear ...you now have the heaviest part of the car totally out of control ...I’ve had rear of pass the front several times LOL...then dig in hard and front whip back and right itself ...toughest frame car I’ve ever had ...the whole car was the frame ...never squeaked and made noises ..tight car ...exhaust manifolds would glow red hot ...right next to the gas tank ..it for sure and adult go kart sports car so close to being great ..I loved it ...I had several others but they were four cylinders and not near the beast ...never had a automatic trans one

today was our last day at henry's for a couple weeks. I checked in at 06:30 and helped with writing up oil changes until 08:00. at that time we did a few new car deliveries and took a few cars out of service, I mostly just sat and did nothing. the crew in the back were setting up for the end of the year Christmas dinner that we always have. around 08:40 I went to see the boss so he could call over to medical for me. I left the shop around 08:50 and drove to my doctors office to have my foot looked at again, he said I need to have a three phase radionuclide bone scan. from there I headed back to medical at henry's to take them the paperwork from my doctor. medical at henry's got approval from workers comp for the three phase radionuclide bone scan. while there I also asked why my orthotics were denied and comp said that they had nothing to review regarding the need for orthotics so I called my doctor about that. my boss had already told me that once I was done at medical to " go home, the Christmas party would be over by the time I got done " so I headed home from there. once home I fried up some catfish to go along with some leftover spaghetti then added big blue on my I-pass account

Replaced the front right wheel bearing today on the car, went pretty well, but the noise is still there.

Can't be tires, because rotating them doesn't fix the sound. Doubt it is suspension, because tire wear is normal. Has to be somewhere in the final drive, because the sound varies with speed, not RPMs. Can't be outer CV joint, because there's no clicking when turning.

No variation in sound during a hard acceleration.

Thinking maybe the front right inner CV joint, but that's guesswork at this point. I hate to throw parts at the problem.

I'm going to have to mull over the problem.

I was sitting at home relaxing then around 14:00 JW called and asked if I was riding today which means " get the Mighty CT 70 loaded on your tintop and get over here "
once over at JW's house I saw that he had both of his CT 70's out and our friend snow was there so the three of us went riding around his neighborhood for awhile. I stayed at JW's until 18:30 before heading home myself, I cut through my neighborhood looking for more Christmas displays but only went back to get a pic of one sofar

picked up my sister Vicky this morning then drove to the gas station in allen park, mi. that sells ethanol free gas ad purchased $15 worth for the Mighty CT 70. from there we went to calder's dairy to get mom some orange pineapple ice cream and some egg nogg. I took Vicky up through the delray area of Detroit to show her where the new bridge to Canada is going to be built. from there we headed to mom's and dropped off her goodies as well as visit for awhile. on our way home we stopped at a little Mexican restaurant that I know about and had lunch, now its about time to go change the back tire on the Mighty CT 70. the one on it is too narrow and makes the bike a little squirrely at high speeds
