Yeah, the old Aussie is one of our "go to" resources for sure. Just don't ask for beer advice...

Well, it's sort of like the pot calling the kettle black - to use and old expression...
:good:

I will and I won't, thanks.

I had a little hiatus on this due to my 21 year old son visiting and driving up to the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 mile race, at which we had a great time. Visited with Mohamed Ali, Colonel Sanders & Elvis Presley's birthplace on the way back, not to mention the Jim Beam distillery and all 500 miles southbound of the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Those of you that saw it know that the race was one for the ages, weather was threatening, could have gone on for days. And a 180th lap major wreck, IMS made the right call and red flagged it, setting up an awesome finish. so many things could have gone the wrong way that day but it didn't, it ended under a green flag on the day of the race, that gave us plenty of time to go sight seeing after.

Looking hard at where I am with the bike now.

Well at last I'm back in the shop attempting to remove the luggage rack, taillight and saddlebags, they kinda went together in what can only be called a "bespoke way".

So wish me luck, only joking, I'll figure it out somehow!!!! :Awe:

I got a preview pic of the motor paint from HOTT.

Looks good to me.

I had a ~1ft long 1" aluminum rod that I drilled and threaded the end of and bolted on a larger, heavy washer to knock out the lower head outer race. Used it again last winter on a CB750F.

Was rereading this thread, and I suspect the bicycle pipe trick would work, since the "real" tool looks similar.

(I would not use his iron pipe trick though - PVC should be fine, but I dislike using metal to set bearing races).

Well here I am at a turning point, took long enough didn't it?

Old OGR1 looks like what I dragged in here nearly a year ago, to improve upon it.

I think it's time to stop De-structing, and start Con-structing this thing.

Got the motor back from HOTT and I could not be more pleased. I just hope I can do it justice with the rest of the bike.

The 1st and 3rd pic also show a certain spaghetti recipe I've got to get to grips with too!

I'm wondering if it would be possible to put the GL1000 rear cover on the GL1100 motor, just to have the kickstarter option there, just for kicks. That was something I always amazed folks on my '75, was kickstarting it, lol!
